Screw tensioning device
11207767 · 2021-12-28 · ·

A screw tensioning device for tensioning or loosing tensionable screw connections comprises a fixation element to be connected to a screw, a support element moveable relative to the fixation element. The support element is arranged moveable relative to the fixation element to apply tension to or remove tension from the screw. A piston is positioned and movable within the fixation element. A volume containing a hydraulic fluid is defined at least partly by the piston, the fixation element or the support element. The movement of the piston manipulates the volume and thereby moves the fixation element with respect to the support element.

HYDRAULIC TENSIONING AND RELEASE TOOL FOR EXPANSION FASTENERS
20210387298 · 2021-12-16 ·

A hydraulic tensioning and release tool for an expansion fastener of a type having an elongate member with a tapered portion for fastening a workpiece. The tool includes a sleeve for placement about the tapered portion; a cylinder(s) including a cylinder for generating compressive force against the workpiece; a release piston for displacing the sleeve and a tension piston for coupling to elongate member. The tension piston and the cylinder(s) defining a tension chamber and the release piston. One of cylinder(s) defines at least one release chamber. Hydraulic ports are in fluid communication with the tension chamber and the release chamber for application of hydraulic pressure to displace the tension piston and the release piston for respectively tensioning the elongate member and for releasing the sleeve from the tapered portion. A tension retaining arrangement retains the elongate member in tension subsequent to removal of hydraulic pressure from the tensioning chamber.

Apparatus for preloading a bearing
11193533 · 2021-12-07 · ·

A method for preloading a bearing includes releasably, threadably, and directly attaching an attaching member to a circumferential outside surface of an exposed end of a threaded shaft of an axle or spindle. A frame is axially separated from, and coupled to, the attaching member. A plurality of extensions extends from the frame axially past the attaching member toward the wheel hub assembly. An adjustment mechanism moves the frame and the plurality of extensions axially towards the wheel hub assembly to contact the wheel hub assembly and/or the bearing to apply a preload to the bearing within the wheel hub assembly.

Threaded Fastener with Improved Resistance to Backing Out of a Blind Hole
20210372456 · 2021-12-02 ·

A threaded fastener composed of separate upper and lower portions with a small axial freedom of movement relative to one another. After being threaded into a blind hole together, the portions are moved relative to one another and locked in place, creating a distribution of stresses which resists backing-out of the fastener without the various drawbacks which limit prior art solutions to this and similar threaded fastener applications.

Fastening device

In a fastening device for fastening a bolt, a male thread is formed on a side surface of a bolt head part, and a part to be engaged is formed on a top surface of the bolt head part. The fastening device includes a bit having a tension rod having a rod female thread part, and an engaging part installed inside the tension rod and engaging the engaged part, the bit causing the bolt to rotate where the engaged part and engaging part are engaged; a supporter surrounding the tension rod in the circumferential direction such that the lower end part thereof protrudes below the lower end part; a sensor for sensing vertical compression force acting on the supporter; a first motor for causing the bit to rotate about the axis; and a second motor for causing the tension rod to rotate about the vertically extending axis.

FASTENER ASSEMBLY SENSOR UNIT

There is provided a sensor unit for a fastener assembly, the sensor unit comprising a mounting arranged to rigidly attach the sensor unit to, or adjacent to, a fastener assembly; and a sensor, that is an optical flow sensor or an inductive sensor, configured to sense movement of the fastener assembly. The sensor unit may comprise a processor arranged to process the output of the sensor to detect loosening of the fastener assembly and to output a signal representing the status of the fastener assembly. The sensor unit may comprise a wireless communication unit arranged to communicate the signal.

A socket for rotatably fastening or unfastening a jackbolt of a multi jackbolt tensioner the socket extending between a first end and a second end such that the first end is adapted to receive the jackbolt, the socket comprising: a passage extending along a length of the socket to receive a head of the jackbolt, the passage being defined by a plurality of even-numbered internal side walls dimensioned to engage a plurality of sides of the head of the jackbolt received therein, the socket having a central axis with diametrically opposed pairs of said side walls being parallel to each other, and pairs of adjacent side walls meeting to form corner portions to receive corners of the jackbolt head; a plurality of guiding members arranged circumferentially about an opening of the passage to guide the head of the jackbolt into the passage and align the plurality of sides of the head of jackbolt such that corners of the jackbolt head are aligned into position with corner portions of said pairs of adjacent side walls.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR A FASTENER HAVING A PROGRESSIVE THREAD PROFILE

A novel threaded fastener is provided having an elongated shank portion with a first end and a second end opposed to the first end, and a helical thread in the form of a continuous helical ridge that is arranged on an external surface of the shank portion. The helical thread includes an asymmetrical threaded portion that has a progressively increasing axial displacement of a pressure flank of the helical thread between the first end and the second end of the shank portion, and a progressively decreasing axial displacement of a non-pressure flank of the helical thread between the first end and the second end of the shank portion. When assembled, the novel threaded fastener has a clamping force distribution that is evenly distributed on the helical threads along its axis in the direction of force transmission reducing the risk of self-loosening and increasing fatigue resistance.
