A gyroscopic roll stabilizer for a boat includes a flywheel shaft having a first end and an opposite second end. The flywheel shaft has first and second open-ended cavities formed on opposing ends. A first uneven seal encloses the first cavity, and a second uneven seal encloses the second cavity. The first and second uneven seals are both configured to provide asymmetric sealing such that greater resistance is provided against flow in a primary sealing direction, from a first side toward a second side, than in a secondary sealing direction, from the second side toward the first side. The first side of the second seal faces inward toward the second cavity, and the second side of the first seal faces inward toward the first cavity. The first and second seals are functionally inverted relative to each other. Related methods are also disclosed.

An electrical machine includes a stator with a stator body supporting an electrical stator and a rotor. The rotor is supported by a bearing having a radial bearing section forming a radial gas bearing and an axial bearing section forming an axial gas bearing, the stator side parts of these bearing sections being a stator side radial bearing part and a stator side axial bearing part that are rigidly connected to one another and together form a stator bearing structure. The stator bearing structure is mounted to the other parts of the stator by either the stator side radial or axial bearing part being rigidly mounted to these other parts, and the other bearing part are connected to these other parts by an elastic support or not at all.

Bearing system, bearing system control method, and computer program for controlling bearing system

In order to enable a bearing system in which a plurality of bearings operate simultaneously or in association with each other to achieve an optimal overall performance: this bearing system is equipped with a bearing A and a measurement execution unit A therefor, a bearing B and a measurement execution unit B therefor, and a control unit for controlling the measurement execution unit A and the measurement execution unit B; the control unit transmits an instruction to the measurement execution unit A and the measurement execution unit B to enable execution of the performance required of the bearing system. The measurement execution unit A and the measurement execution unit B respectively operate the bearing A and the bearing B under an instructed operation condition. The relationship of an operation condition A of the bearing A and an operation condition B of the bearing B to an index, which indicates each of the operational states of the bearing A and the bearing B when the bearing A and the bearing B are operated under the operation conditions therefor, has been measured and saved in advance. The control unit references the relationship and accordingly transmits an instruction to the measurement execution unit A and the measurement execution unit B.

Foil bearing assembly

A foil bearing assembly includes a cylindrical body that defines a cooling fluid passage between a radial outer surface and a radial inner surface of the cylindrical body. The foil bearing assembly includes a foil bearing retained within the cylindrical body and in thermal communication with the radial inner surface of the cylindrical body. The foil bearing assembly is connectable to a bearing housing such that intake and outlet ports of the foil bearing assembly are connected in fluid communication with a coolant inlet passage and a coolant outlet passage defined by the bearing housing. The foil bearing assembly is interchangeable with a second foil bearing assembly having at least one of a cooling fluid passage, a foil bearing, and a cylindrical body inner diameter different than the corresponding cooling fluid passage, the foil bearing, and the cylindrical body inner diameter of the first foil bearing assembly.

FLUID MACHINE

A fluid machine includes a rotating body, an operation body rotated integrally with the rotating body, a housing, hydrodynamic plain bearings rotatably supporting the rotating body relative to the housing, and a cooling passage arranged in the housing. The hydrodynamic plain bearings each include a resin coating layer at a portion that is opposed to the rotating body. The hydrodynamic plain bearings include at least one combination of hydrodynamic plain bearings. Each combination includes an upstream hydrodynamic plain bearing and a downstream hydrodynamic plain bearing located at different positions in a direction in which the fluid flows through the cooling passage. The coating layer of the upstream hydrodynamic plain bearing has a lower hardness than the coating layer of the downstream hydrodynamic plain bearing.

Flexible bearing retainer for multistage centrifugal pump

The present invention relates to a centrifugal pump and a bearing retainer for the centrifugal pump. The centrifugal pump has a shaft, a bearing for supporting the shaft, and a bearing retainer for the bearing. The bearing retainer comprises a ring section adapted to surround the bearing and an elastic section adjacent the ring section, wherein the elastic section comprises multiple slits, dividing the elastic section into multiple resilient parts, wherein the multiple resilient parts are adapted to receiving and supporting the bearing, thereby creating a compression force in radial direction perpendicular to the axis of the shaft, allowing the bearing retainer to hold the bearing in a fixed position with respect to the bearing retainer.
