TORQUE LIMITING HANDLE
20230304600 · 2023-09-28 ·

A handle includes a torque limiting device. The torque limiting device includes a plurality of driven members and a plurality of driving members. The plurality of driving members is configured to drive the plurality of driven members in a first direction to turn a valve. In response to turning the valve, the plurality of driving members disengages from the plurality of driven members upon reaching a torque threshold. Feedback is provided when the torque limiting device reaches the torque threshold.

Torque limiting connector

Connectors are disclosed that include an outer connector, inner connector, and a clutch that can collectively limit a torque transmitted through the connector. The outer connector includes a profile disposed on an inner surface of the outer connector, and the inner connector may be disposed within the outer connector and can include an upper threaded portion and a lower threaded portion. The clutch can be disposed around and rotationally coupled to the inner connector and can include a plurality of clutch teeth extending from an outer surface of the clutch, wherein the plurality of clutch teeth are outwardly biased to be releasably engaged with the profile of the outer connector. The plurality of clutch teeth can be configured to transfer torque from the outer connector to the inner connector when the torque is below a torque limit, and prevent transfer of torque when the torque exceeds the torque limit.

System and method for controlling a downhole operation using a clutch tool

A clutch tool includes a housing that is non-rotatable with respect to the first section of the work string and comprising inner grooves. The clutch tool also includes an inner mandrel that is non-rotatable with respect to the second section of the work string. The inner mandrel includes outer grooves that extend along only an axial portion of the inner mandrel. Further, the inner mandrel includes a torque transition area opening from the outer grooves and extending completely around the inner mandrel. The clutch tool also includes a torque sleeve comprising inner protrusions engageable with the outer grooves and outer protrusions engageable with the outer grooves, the outer protrusions being angled. Moreover, the clutch tool includes a biasing device to bias the inner protrusions of the torque sleeve into engagement with the outer grooves.

Flaring tool and method of flaring a tube or the like

Tube flaring tool comprising a tube receiving region comprising first and second gripping dies retractable with respect to each other and positionable to cooperatively define an opening for receiving a tube; a first clutch shaft; a support housing having a bore for receiving a second clutch shaft; a clutch plate; a flare forming head operable to flare the free end of the tube; and a biasing member urging the flare forming head axially. The first clutch shaft may have an outer configuration adapted to be engaged by a 12 point or ⅜″ square drive SAE ratchet wrench for creating mechanical advantage to actuate the flare forming head. When the force that the biasing member urges the flare forming head axially is overcome, the clutch plate disengages from the second clutch shaft such that further actuation of the first clutch shaft does not rotate the flare forming head shaft, preventing over-flaring.

Torque-limiting spindle

An exemplary torque-limiting spindle includes an input member, an output member, a clutch mechanism, and a bias mechanism. The input member extends along a longitudinal axis, is configured for connection with a handle, and includes a first engagement feature. The output member extends along the longitudinal axis, is configured for connection with a rotatable member of a lockset, and includes a second engagement feature. The clutch mechanism includes the first engagement feature and the second engagement feature. The bias mechanism is engaged with the input member and the output member and exerts a biasing force urging the first engagement feature and the second engagement feature into engagement with one another.

Pawl clutch with pawl rejection feature

A pawl clutch may include a first member having at least one notch, and a second member. The first member and the second member may be configured to rotate relative to each other at a speed differential when the pawl clutch is disengaged. The pawl clutch may further comprise at least one pawl moveably retained to the second member and configured to engage the pawl clutch by engaging the notch of the first member. The notch of the first member may have one of a chamfered edge and a concave edge.

Fall energy limiter

A self-retracting lifeline including a housing, a drum mounted for rotation in the housing, a lifeline wrapped around the drum and extending from the housing, and a rotary energy absorber unit including at least one mount adapted for selective rotation in the housing, and an energy absorber adapted to absorb energy in response to the mount rotating relative to the housing.

Isolated drive assembly with an isolator assembly and a torque limiter for limiting the transmission of torque through an elastomeric element of the isolator assembly

An isolated drive assembly that includes a drive member, which is rotatable about a rotational axis, a drive member hub, which is rotatable about the rotational axis relative to the drive member, an isolator assembly, which has an elastomeric element that transmits rotary power between the drive member and the drive member hub, and a torque limiter. The torque limiter has first and second sets of engagable limiter elements that limit rotation of the drive member relative to the drive member hub in opposite rotational directions to limit a magnitude of a moment that is transmitted through the elastomeric element.
