Multiple stage air shock
11236797 · 2022-02-01 ·

The present invention is an air shock absorber having a multiple stage design. The design includes a first algorithm for determining the compressed and extended lengths of the air shock based on the lengths of the parts for each stage. The first algorithm offers the air shock an extended length that is greater than twice its compressed length, an optimized extended length, and a construction capability based on adding stages. In particular, the extended length-compressed length relationship is a quality inherently unobtainable by current shock absorbers. The design also includes a second algorithm for determining the spring rate. The second algorithm offers the capability to both set-up the air shock with a relatively linear spring rate and make the relatively linear spring rate more linear.

Door component comprising a controllable damping device

A door component has a controllable damping device and contains a magnetorheological fluid. Two connection units are movable relative to one another. One of the two connection units is connected to a support structure and the other one to a pivotable door unit. The device damps a movement of the door unit between a closed position and an open position in a controlled manner by way of a control unit. The magnetorheological damping device has a piston unit and a cylinder unit surrounding the piston unit. The piston unit divides a cylinder volume into two chambers. The piston unit is equipped with a first one-way valve. The two chambers are connected together, via an external return channel equipped with at least one controllable magnetorheological damping valve, to form a one-way circuit. When the piston unit moves in and out, the magnetorheological fluid flows through the piston unit in the same flow direction.

A piston housing unit includes a housing with a longitudinal axis, a piston rod that is displaceable, in particular along the longitudinal axis and/or around the longitudinal axis, a guide/damping unit for guiding and damping the displacement of the piston rod.

Damper with control valves

A damper includes an inner tube. The damper includes a piston slidably disposed within the inner tube. The piston defines a first working chamber and a second working chamber within the inner tube. The damper also includes an outer tube disposed around the inner tube. The outer tube defines an outer chamber between the inner tube and the outer tube. The damper further includes a cover member mounted on an outer surface of the outer tube. The cover member defines a collector chamber between the outer tube and the cover member. The damper includes a first control valve mounted on the cover member. The damper also includes a second control valve mounted on the cover member and spaced apart from the first control valve.

A shock absorber according to the present invention includes: a cylinder; a rod movably inserted into the cylinder; an extension side chamber (operation chamber) and a compression side chamber (operation chamber) provided in the cylinder; a valve disc that is provided to be movable in the axial direction on the outer circumference of the rod and has an annular valve seat and a port which is opened on the inner circumference of the annular valve seat and causes the extension side chamber (operation chamber) and the compression side chamber (operation chamber) to communicate with each other; and an annular leaf valve that opens and closes the port.

Passive heave compensator

A passive heave compensator comprising: a main hydraulic cylinder, including a moveable piston having a piston rod extendible through the main hydraulic cylinder and a piston head, a gas phase above the piston head, and at least one oil phase below the piston head separated by a boundary; an upper connection point associated with the main hydraulic cylinder and a lower connection point associated with the piston rod; and at least one accumulator, the or each accumulator having a moveable separator to divide the accumulator between a gas phase above the separator, and an oil phase below the separator, and the or each oil phase being in communication with an oil phase in the main hydraulic cylinder; characterized in that the main hydraulic cylinder further comprises a cylinder sleeve co-axial with the piston head to provide, in co-ordination with the piston head, the boundary between the gas phase and the at least one oil phase in the main hydraulic cylinder. In this way, the variation in the coordination between the shape, longitudinal position, or both of the piston head, which naturally must be smaller in cross-section than the cross-section of the main hydraulic cylinder, and the transverse extent of the cylinder sleeve, provides variation in the cross-sectional area of oil volume in the main hydraulic cylinder, and thus different damping effects along the length of the main hydraulic cylinder, which are available to the user.

A heave compensator with adjustable dampening properties includes a length extension device having an inner space divided by a slide-able piston into a vacuum chamber and a liquid filled chamber, a gas accumulator divided by a slide-able piston into a gas filled chamber and a liquid filled chamber, and a gas tank having an expansion chamber. The liquid and gas chamber are fluidly connected to each other with valve controlled conduits. Further, the device includes pressure and temperature sensors that register pressure and temperature in the gas and liquid phases. The device further includes a control unit having a signal receiving unit, a writeable computer memory, a data processing unit, and a signal transmitting unit. The data processing unit contains computer software that calculates suited amounts of gas and gas pressure in the gas accumulator and/or gas tank based on the information of which lifting operation is going to be performed. The data processing unit further engages activation means such that the suited amount of gas and gas pressure are achieved and maintained during the different phases of the lifting operation.

The present invention is a networkable, peripherally valved hydraulic shock absorber and damper apparatus which is a substantial improvement and major advance over the shock absorber and damping systems conventionally known to date. The apparatus employs an elevated viscosity hydraulic fluid as a damping medium; and presents a unique structural arrangement that utilizes peripheral valving to shunt a high viscosity hydraulic fluid between the peripheral edges of the piston mechanism and the cylinder wall.
