Certain aspects and features include techniques for reporting resource flow at a metering device. In an example, a metering device measures resource flow by measuring a pressure or a flow rate. The metering device sets a reporting rate to a default reporting rate. The metering device transmits communications indicating the measured resource flow to an external device at the reporting rate. The metering device detects seismic activity at the metering device. The metering device determines that the seismic activity exceeds a seismic threshold. The metering device, in response to determining that the seismic activity exceeds the seismic threshold, adjusts the reporting rate to an event reporting rate, and starts an event time period. The metering device, transmits communications indicating the measured resource flow to the external device at the event reporting rate during the event time period.

A rising main pipeline assessment system and method. An analysis system obtains data recorded on the pipeline and generates a steady state hydraulic model for the pipeline which defines expected performance zones under normal operating conditions and zone boundaries delineating normal and abnormal operating conditions. Model data is recorded in a data repository of the processing hub. A monitoring system includes a pipeline-connectable pressure transducer configured to obtain measurements during operation of the pipeline and generate, for each of a plurality of predetermined time periods, a data record including minimum, maximum and mean measurements. The data record is communicated to a processing hub which is configured to classify each received data record measurement according to its measurements and the performance zones of the model. The processing hub monitors the classified data records for each performance zone and generates an alarm upon identifying a predetermined pattern of classified data records.

System and method of detecting gas-leakage along an underground pipeline system

A system and method of detecting gas leakage along an underground pipeline system accurately determines the presence of a gas leak while minimizing cost and preserving energy. The system includes at least one underground pipeline with a plurality of stack vents, a plurality of sensor units, and at least one remote server. Each sensor unit is mounted within a stack vent. The method begins by tracking a current time with each sensor unit. A gas-concentration reading with at least one specific unit is captured and then communicated along with a sensor location and a sensor identification to the remote server and recorded with the remote server. The tracking, capturing, and communicating of the gas-concentration reading is repeated so that actual gas-concentration data is compiled and compared to a baseline gas-concentration data or a defined gas-concentration threshold. A leak notification for a gas leak is then sent with the remote server.

METHODS OF DETERMINING FLOW RATES OF GAS LEAKS IN A PRESSURIZED GAS SYSTEM

A method of determining a flow rate of a gas leak in a pressurized gas system includes applying a liquid soap solution to a region of a component, and capturing, via a camera of a portable electronic device, a plurality of sequential images of bubbles formed in the region by an interaction between the liquid soap solution and a gas leak from the component. The plurality of images are analyzed by a first algorithm executed by a processor to determine a total area of the bubbles in the region produced by the leak. A flow rate of the gas leak is then determined via a second algorithm executed by the processor based on the total area of bubbles in the region, a size of the component, and a pressure of the gas.
