COMBUSTOR ARRANGEMENT
20180135859 · 2018-05-17 · ·

A combustor for a gas turbine engine having a central axis about which is arranged in flow sequence a radial swirler, a pre-chamber partly defined by a wall and a combustion chamber. The radial swirler has a base plate having an annular array of vanes and fuel injectors arranged to direct an air/fuel mixture radially inwardly and tangentially to create a vortex that flows through the pre-chamber and into the combustion chamber. The pre-chamber has a portion which is convergent in a downstream direction.

PARALLEL PROCESS HEATING AGAINST SERIAL COMBUSTION

Compressed air is partially combusted with a fuel, cooled by counter current convection against mixed feed comprising steam and a hydrocarbon whereby the mixed feed reacts to form syngas, the air is further combusted with fuel and cooled against mixed feed, whereby the mixed feed reacts to form syngas, and the air is then expanded to perform work on a load. The mixed feed and combustion gases exchange heat counter currently at approximately the same respective pressures of 30 bar. The flame temperature, firing rate, NOx production, bridge wall temperature, and the expense of downstream heat recovery are reduced compared to radiant furnaces used for steam reforming. The radiant zone in steam reforming is replaced with smaller equipment. Steam export is eliminated.

Method to operate a modulating burner

The invention pertains to a method for operating a surface stabilized fully premixed gas premix burner. The burner is adapted to modulate between a minimum load and a full load, the ratio of the full load over the minimum load being at least 4. The method comprises the step of supplying a premix of combustible gas and air to the burner at an air to combustible gas ratio, the combustible gas supplied to the burner comprises at least 20% by volume of hydrogen, In the method, the air to combustible gas ratio of the premix which is supplied to the burner when the burner is operated at minimum load is set by a mechanism to be in relative terms at least 20% higher than the air to combustible gas ratio of the premix which is supplied to the burner when the burner is operated at full load.

GASEOUS FUEL AND LIQUID WATER INJECTION FOR TURBINE ENGINE

FUEL NOZZLE AND SWIRLER

An engine can utilize a combustor to combust fuel to drive the engine. A fuel nozzle assembly can supply fuel to the combustor for combustion or ignition of the fuel. The fuel nozzle assembly can include a swirler and a fuel nozzle to supply a mixture of fuel and air for combustion, which can supply a primary fuel supply and a secondary fuel supply. Increasing efficiency and reducing emission require the use of alternative fuels, which combust at higher temperatures or burn at faster burn speeds than traditional fuels, requiring improved fuel introduction without the occurrence of flame holding or flashback.

HEATER WITH REMOTE COMBUSTION AIR ADDITION
20250027643 · 2025-01-23 ·

A heater includes a radiant section with a bottom wall and a side wall. A burner is provided on the bottom wall and a primary fuel stream and a primary combustion air stream are provided through the burner to support a primary combustion reaction local to the burner. The primary combustion air stream may be less than the air needed to burn all of the primary fuel stream, resulting in the primary combustion reaction being sub-stochiometric and reducing NOx formation. A remote air pipe injects remote air into the radiant section distal to the burner, and in some cases, spaced from the burner by at least two meters. The remote air addition supports a lean secondary combustion reaction that further minimizes NOx emissions concentration. The heater is suitable for use with high H2 fuel or preheated air, or both, to lower CO2 emissions while meeting NOx emission targets.
