CAMMING RETRACTION SYSTEM

One embodiment relates to an improved camming stem system including a head member, a plurality of cam lobes, a connection system, and a retraction system. The cam lobes may be selectively rotatable between an extended state and a retracted state with respect to at least one axle of the head member. The connection system may create an elongated, substantially rigid region by intercoupling the head member with a loop. The retraction system is configured to selectively engage the retracted state with a trigger assembly which is slidably externally coupled to the connection system. The trigger assembly further includes a coupling member coupled with the plurality of cam lobes via a plurality of retractor wires, at least one trigger cable fixably coupled to the coupling member, a trigger coupled to the at least one trigger cable, a sleeve member intercoupled between the coupling member and the trigger.

An improved bolt hanger defines a hanger that exerts an outward force on the bolt that secures the hanger to a rock wall, urging the bolt outwardly under tension, and thereby helping to prevent the bolt from coming loose over time. The improved bolt hanger has a concave shape formed into it centered around the bolt hole. As the bolt is tightened into the bore in the rock, the head of the bolt (and/or an underlying washer) causes the concave portion to compress. This compression causes the concave portion of the hanger to exert an outward force on the bolt, which makes loosening the bolt more difficult. Furthermore, the hanger according to the present invention has a complex geometry on the rock-contacting surface that aids in the prevention of rotation of the hanger when under load. The bolt hanger may be used with a modified bolt adapted for use with the improved hanger.

The frame is configured such that when the first insert is within the first volume and the second insert is within the second volume a first engagement surface of the first insert is facing a second engagement surface of the second insert. The frame includes a first tapered surface that engages a tapered surface of the first insert to limit movement of the first insert along a lateral axis nonparallel to the longitudinal axis. The access member is configured to be coupled to the frame covering a portion of the first volume to limit movement of the first insert.

The anchor has a hinged base, which base consists of at least a pair of pivotally connected wings, the wings able to pivot about at least one longitudinal axis between, a first position in a closed state and a second position in an open state, the open state having a dimension between opposing parts of each wing that is greater than when in the closed state. A locking mechanism locks the wings in either the first position, or the second position. A connecting portion adapted to enable a load to be connected to the anchor connects to the hinged base, the connecting portion having a loading axis which is substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis. The anchor can be set between either the first position, or the second position, and then anchored to enable a load to be connected thereto.

The cam head includes a stem end and two parallel axles coupled to the stem end. The retraction system is a unique system comprised of a trigger, flexible trigger wires, control horns, and torsion springs. The control horns couple the trigger to the camming lobes and are configured to reduce buckling and allow greater camming range. The retraction system can also include a retraction locking mechanism. The locking mechanism is used to store the cam in a retracted and locked position until it is needed by the climber. When needed, the climber can easily unlock and extend the camming lobes with one hand.

A rod of variable length connects the head with an annular end designed to receive a carabiner. A wire element made from textile material passes through the rod to connect the head and the annular end. A trigger is installed slidingly to selectively engage the retracted position of the cam. An adjustment device of the length of the rod defines at least a distance between the head and the annular end that is greater than a threshold distance to stretch the wire element and compress the rod in the first direction.
