Fuel gas conditioning
Compressed rich natural gas is divided into a cooling gas stream and a fuel gas stream. The cooling gas stream is depressurized. The cooling gas and the fuel gas are then heat exchanged to provide a first cooling step to the fuel gas. The cooled fuel gas continues into a second cooling step in a second heat exchanger, and then flows into a separator vessel where liquids are removed from the bottom of the separator and conditioned fuel gas exits the top of the separator. The conditioned fuel gas from the separator and produced from its influent is depressurized and heat exchanged to provide the second cooling fluid for the second heat exchanger.
Production of Acetic Acid through Cryogenic Separation of Syngas
A system and method for producing acetic acid, including dry reforming methane with carbon dioxide to give syngas, cryogenically separating carbon monoxide from the syngas giving a first stream including primarily carbon monoxide and a second stream including carbon monoxide and hydrogen. The method includes synthesizing methanol from the second stream via hydrogenation of carbon monoxide in the second stream, synthesizing dimethyl ether from the methanol, and generating acetic acid from the dimethyl ether and first-stream carbon monoxide.
CHILLER, AIR SEPARATION SYSTEM, AND RELATED METHODS
A chiller can be configured as a chiller for a gasification system or other type of system or plant. In some embodiments, the chiller can be configured to utilize a single heat source, such as low grade waste heat in the form of hot water, and/or low pressure steam to drive one or more absorption-based chillers to cool inlet air to one or more adsorbers of a pre-purification unit (PPU). In the event of the detection of an undesired impurity spike (e.g. carbon dioxide spike, etc.) an additional amount of heat source can be withdrawn from the gasification system to increase the level of cooling the absorption chiller can provide to improve the removal of impurities. An automated control loop can be utilized in some embodiments. The control loop can be configured to check for an impurity concentration and adjust operations accordingly.
Natural Gas Liquefaction By A High Pressure Expansion Process
A method and system for liquefying a methane-rich high-pressure feed gas stream using a first heat exchanger zone and a second heat exchanger zone. The feed gas stream is mixed with a refrigerant stream to form a second gas stream, which is compressed, cooled, and directed to a second heat exchanger zone to be additionally cooled below ambient temperature. It is then expanded to a pressure less than 2,000 psia and no greater than the pressure to which the second gas stream was compressed, and then separated into a first expanded refrigerant stream and a chilled gas stream. The first expanded refrigerant stream is expanded and then passed through the first heat exchanger zone such that it has a temperature that is cooler, by at least 5° F., than the highest fluid temperature within the first heat exchanger zone.
Methods for providing refrigeration in natural gas liquids recovery plants
A process and plant for natural gas liquids (NGL) recovery includes a main heat exchanger, a cold gas/liquid separator, a separation or distillation column, and an overhead gas heat exchanger. A pressurized residue gas generated from an overhead gas stream removed the top of the separation or distillation column is expanded and used as a cooling medium in the overhead gas heat exchanger and the main heat exchanger. The expanded residue gas, used as a cooling medium, is then compressed up to a pressure to be combined with the overhead stream from the separation or distillation column.

Natural gas processing using supercritical fluid power cycles
The systems and methods described herein integrate a supercritical fluid power generation system with a LNG production/NGL separation system. A heat exchanger thermally couples the supercritical fluid power generation system with the LNG production/NGL separation system. A relatively cool heat transfer medium, such as carbon dioxide, passes through the heat exchanger and cools a first portion of extracted natural gas. The relatively warm heat transfer medium returns to the supercritical fluid power generation system where a compressor and a thermal input device, such as a combustor, are used to increase the pressure and temperature of the heat transfer medium above its critical point to provide a supercritical heat transfer medium. A second portion of the extracted natural gas may be used as fuel for the thermal input device.
