METHOD FOR OBTAINING AN AIR PRODUCT, AND AIR SEPARATION PLANT
An air product is produced in an air separation plant having a heat exchanger, an expansion/compression unit, a rectification unit, liquid storage, cold storage and an air compressor. The air supplied to the rectification unit is conducted through the main air compressor at a pressure level at least 3 bar above the highest operation pressure for the rectification unit. Cryogenic liquids are produced in a first production amount by a first operating mode, a lower second production amount by a second operating mode and a higher third production amount by a third operating mode. Cryogenic liquid is stored in the liquid storage in the third operating mode and removed from storage in the second operating mode. Cryogenic liquid is evaporated in different amounts in each operating mode, which amounts differ by no more than 10%.
PROCESS AND APPARATUS FOR PRODUCING PRESSURIZED GASEOUS NITROGEN BY CRYOGENIC SEPARATION OF AIR
Process and apparatus for producing pressurized gaseous nitrogen by cryogenic separation of air. The distillation column system includes a high pressure column, a medium pressure column, a main condenser and top condenser both being condenser-evaporators. Compressed and purified feed air is cooled in a heat exchanger and introduced to the distillation system. A gaseous nitrogen stream from the high pressure column is condensed in the main condenser. Bottom liquid of the medium pressure column is evaporated and gaseous nitrogen from the medium pressure column is condensed in the top condenser. Liquid nitrogen from the medium pressure column is pressurized and introduced to the high pressure column. A second gaseous nitrogen stream from the high pressure column is recovered as pressurized gaseous nitrogen product. A portion of the compressed and purified feed air is work-expanded and then warmed in the main heat exchanger.
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR PROVIDING AUXILIARY REFRIGERATION TO AN AIR SEPARATION PLANT
A method and system for cryogenic air separation that employs both a primary refrigeration circuit and an auxiliary refrigeration circuit is provided. The auxiliary refrigeration circuit is configured in a manner that it can be easily tied-in or modified to an existing air separation plant.
METHOD FOR PRODUCING PRESSURIZED GASEOUS OXYGEN THROUGH THE CRYOGENIC SEPARATION OF AIR
A method is provided for production of gaseous oxygen at high pressures by splitting a main air feed into at least three separate streams, with the first stream being fed to a heat exchanger and then a column system for rectification; the second stream being further compressed in a warm booster, partially cooled in the heat exchanger, expanded in a turbine coupled to the warm booster and then fed to the column system; the third stream being expanded in a warm expander before being introduced to the heat exchanger and introduced to the column system. In certain embodiments, substantially all of the main air feed is eventually introduced to the column system for rectification, resulting in reduced sizing of a main air compressor and improved product recoveries.
Improvements in Air Purification Units
A liquid air energy storage system comprises an air liquefier, a liquid air storage facility for storing the liquefied air, and a power recovery unit coupled to the liquid air storage facility. The air liquefier comprises an air input, an adsorption air purification unit for purifying the input air, and a cold box for liquefying the purified air. The power recovery unit comprise a pump for pressurizing the liquefied air from the liquid air storage facility; an evaporator for transforming the high-pressure liquefied air into high-pressure gaseous air; an expansion turbine capable of being driven by the high-pressure gaseous air; a generator for generating electricity from the expansion turbine; and an exhaust for exhausting low-pressure gaseous air from the expansion turbine. The exhaust is coupled to the adsorption air purification unit such that at least a portion of the low-pressure gaseous air exhausted from the expansion turbine is usable to regenerate the adsorption air purification unit.
System and method for liquefying and storing a fluid
A fluid is liquefied from a gaseous state to a liquid state, and the liquefied fluid is stored. In one embodiment, the fluid is oxygen. Mechanisms are employed that enhance the durability, longevity, reliability, efficiency, of a system used to liquefy the fluid.
AIR SEPARATION SYSTEM AND METHOD
A system and method for separating air in an air separation plant is provided. The disclosed systems and methods divert a portion of the compressed, purified air stream to a bypass system configured to selectively produce a higher pressure compressed output stream or a lower pressure compressed output stream. The higher pressure and/or lower pressure compressed output streams are cooled in a main heat exchanger by indirect heat transfer with a plurality of product streams from the air separation plant and then rectified in the distillation column system. A second portion of the compressed, purified air stream is partially cooled in the main heat exchanger and expanding in a turbo-expander to produce power and an exhaust stream which is directed to the distillation column system of the air separation plant where it imparts additional refrigeration generated by the expansion of the compressed air stream in the turbo-expander.
