TURBINE WHEELS, TURBINE ENGINES INCLUDING THE SAME, AND METHODS OF FABRICATING TURBINE WHEELS WITH IMPROVED BOND LINE GEOMETRY
Turbine wheels, turbine engines, and methods of fabricating the turbine wheels are provided. An exemplary method includes fabricating a turbine wheel that includes a rotor disk and a plurality of turbine blades operatively connected to the rotor disk through a blade mount. The method includes locating a cooling passage within a blade mount preliminary configuration and a cooling inlet on a surface of the blade mount preliminary configuration. A rotor disk bonding surface geometry and a blade mount bonding surface geometry are designed based upon a stress analysis of the turbine wheel and locations of the cooling passage and cooling inlet. A rotor disk production configuration and a blade mount production configuration are generated based upon the preliminary configurations. A blade mount and a rotor disk are formed based upon the production configurations. A blade ring including a plurality of blade mounts is formed and bonded to the rotor disk.
FAN
A fan includes a hub and a plurality of fan blades. The hub has an axle center. The fan blades are disposed around the hub. Each of the fan blades has a bent portion, and the bent portions of the fan blades are extended along a surrounding direction surrounding the axle center. The hub is welded with the bent portion of each of the fan blades along the surrounding direction. As a result, the number of fan blades is maximized, the strength is simultaneously ensured to be enough, and the advantages of effectively enhancing the fan characteristics are achieved.
Determining a moment weight of a component based on measured surface geometry/solid model of the component
A method is provided during which surface data indicative of a measured surface geometry of a component is received. The surface data is processed to provide model data indicative of a solid model of the component. The model data is processed to determine a center of gravity distance of the component. A moment weight of the component is determined based on the center of gravity distance of the component and a measured weight of the component. The moment weight is communicated with the component.
Apparatus and process of forming an integrally bladed rotor with cooled single crystal blades and an equiax nickel disk
An air cooled integrally bladed rotor with single crystals turbine rotor blades having cooling air passages formed into an equiax rotor disk, where a mold having expendable Molybdenum tooling and reusable molybdenum tooling is used to form the IBR. An annular blade ring with openings is used to secure the single crystal rotor blades within the mold, and a number of tube tools are inserted into a bottom end of each blade that forms a cooling air supply passage within the rotor disk. Two molybdenum circular shaped hubs are used to secure a bottom end of the tube tools with the mold. The mold is filled with metal powder and high pressure is used to solidify the powder to form the IBR. Expendable tooling is removed using sublimation when exposed to oxygen. Reusable tooling is reused to form additional IBRs.
Method of making integrally bladed rotor
Disclosed is a method of making an integrally bladed rotor. According to the method, a rotor disk comprising a radially outer rim surface is provided. A portion of the disk outer rim surface is removed, leaving a protrusion on the rotor disk outer rim surface. The disk with material removed is subjected to thermal processing. A blade comprising an airfoil and a base is positioned such that a base surface is in contact with the protrusion, and heat, pressure, and motion are applied between the blade and the disk to friction weld the base surface to the protrusion.
Turbine wheel assembly with ceramic matrix composite components
The present disclosure is related to turbine wheel assemblies for gas turbine engines. Such turbine wheel assemblies may include ceramic matrix composite airfoil components mounted with different types of coupling to a central disc.

Bladed disc and method of manufacturing the same
A method (56) for fabricating an integral assembly (24) is disclosed. The method comprises providing (56) a first workpiece (26) having a first surface (46) and a second workpiece (28) having a second surface (50), performing a first bonding process between the first surface (46) of the first workpiece (26) and the second surface (50) of the second workpiece (28) to form a sub-assembly workpiece (48), and performing a second bonding process between a third surface (52) of the sub-assembly workpiece (48) and a fourth surface (54) of a third workpiece (30) to form the integral assembly (24). The material properties of the first workpiece (26) are different from material properties of the third workpiece (30).
TURBOMACHINE STAGE AND METHOD OF MAKING SAME
A turbomachine comprises a hub and a plurality of blade elements. Each blade element comprises a blade, a platform, and a tang. The plurality of blade elements are arranged circumferentially around the hub, each interlocking or affixed with an adjacent blade element and retained in position by the hub. Each blade elements formed from a single stamped blank to provide an inexpensive method of manufacture, for low cost turbomachinery.
