A compression-release brake system is provided that includes a lost motion exhaust rocker assembly, an actuation piston, and a reset device. The actuation piston includes an actuation piston body that is slidably received by the rocker arm to define a piston cavity in the rocker arm and is movable between piston retracted and extended positions. The actuation piston is configured to be operatively associated with the exhaust valve to permit unseating of the exhaust valve from the seated state. An actuation piston check valve is configured to move between closed and open positions to permit hydraulic fluid flow through an actuation piston communication port to the piston cavity. The reset device includes a reset check valve and a reset pressure control spring for applying a biasing force to the reset check valve to urge the reset check valve toward an open position.

A rocker assembly for a type III center pivot valvetrain comprises a rocker arm comprising a cam end, a center pivot bore, and a valve end. The valve end comprises a first actuator bore and a second actuator bore. A cylinder deactivation actuator is in the first actuator bore. An engine brake actuator is in the second actuator bore. The rocker assembly can be part of a valve assembly and can impart an engine braking function, a cylinder deactivation function, and a main lift function to first and second valves. It is also possible to impart an early exhaust valve opening, a main lift function, and a late exhaust valve closing to the engine braking valve.
COMPACT ENGINE BRAKE WITH PRESSURE-CONTROL RESET
A compression-release engine brake system operating an exhaust valve of an engine during a compression-release engine braking operation. The compression-release brake system comprises an exhaust rocker arm and a brake reset device disposed in a reset bore formed in the exhaust rocker arm. The brake reset device comprises a reset check valve, a slider-piston slidably disposed in the reset bore and an external slider bias spring biasing the piston foot away from the brake reset device. The external slider bias spring is disposed outside the reset bore and around the piston-slider. The brake reset device permits pressurized hydraulic fluid to flow from a supply conduit to a reset conduit to supply a brake actuation piston when the reset check valve is open. The actuation piston extends and engages the exhaust valve toward the end of a compression stroke of the internal combustion engine, and the brake reset device resets.
Variable valve lift apparatus
A variable valve lift apparatus includes a lever body having a set length for a lever motion. One end of the lever body is connected with a hydraulic pressure supply portion and another end thereof is connected with the valve. A rotation shaft is disposed such that a width direction of the lever body is a length direction of the rotation shaft. A roller rotates around the rotation shaft. A high cam is disposed at the camshaft to rotate together with the camshaft and has a lobe shape for rolling-contact the roller to realize a high lift. A low cam is disposed at the camshaft to rotate together with the camshaft and has a lobe shape for rolling-contacting the roller to realize a low lift. The roller is disposed to slide along the length direction of the rotation shaft and selectively rolling-contact with the high cam or the low cam by sliding.
Hydraulic Drive for Accelerating and Braking Dynamically Moving Components
The aim of the invention is to ensure that a hydraulic drive (10) for accelerating and braking a gas exchange valve (20) of internal combustion engines or other reciprocating engines operates in a simple, reliable and recuperative manner. To this end, a first pressure tank (41) for providing a first pressure p.sub.1, a restoring energy accumulator preferably embodied as a spring (25), and at least one hydraulic basic pressure tank (40) having a lower pressure p.sub.0 than the first pressure tank (41) are provided. A controllable opening (49) of a first valve (46) is arranged with at least one non-return valve (47) located upstream or downstream of the opening in the flow path, in a connection line (48) between the first hydraulic pressure tank (41) and the working cylinder (22), said non-return valve allowing the pressure medium (30) to flow towards the working cylinder (22) but preventing it from flowing back towards the pressure tank (41). In order to also initiate the closing movement or the braking of the gas exchange valve in a hydraulically simple and reliable manner, a controllable opening (59) of a second valve (56) is arranged in a second connection line (58) between the first pressure tank (41) and the working cylinder (22), with a non-return valve (57) that prevents flow towards the working cylinder (22) but allows backflow towards the pressure tank (41).
Actuation apparatus
An actuation transmission apparatus for actuating a latching arrangement for latching and unlatching a first body and a second body of a switchable valve train component of an internal combustion engine, the latching arrangement being biased from an unlatched position where the first body and the second body are unlatched towards a latched position where the latching arrangement latches the first body and the second body together, the actuation transmission apparatus including: a shaft rotatable by an actuation source; a contacting element for contacting the latching arrangement; and a biasing device for biasing the contacting element rotationally with respect to the shaft. In use, the biasing device becomes biased by the shaft when the actuation source rotates the shaft when the actuation source attempts to actuate the latching arrangement to the unlatched position, via the contacting element, when the latching arrangement is in an un-actuatable state.
Finger follower for lobe switching and single source lost motion
A switching finger may operate in two or three states or positions and cooperate with a single motion source to achieve methods of operating an engine in corresponding two or three modes. The modes may include cylinder deactivation, main event or auxiliary modes, including lost motion braking, LIVC and EEVO. A follower for an engine valve train utilizes an adjustable support assembly that eliminates potential for partial engagement during operation. A lever engagement member or latch is disposed for movement on the follower body and interacts with a lever to provide a constant contact geometry. The latch may support the lever in one or more precise positions, or permit the lever to pivot free of the latch for complete lost motion, as in cylinder deactivation applications.
TYPE III CAM SIDE CYLINDER DEACTIVATION
A rocker arm assembly includes a rocker arm configured to rotate about a rocker shaft and having a valve side end configured to selectively engage an engine valve, and a cam side end configured to be selectively engaged by a camshaft. A cylinder deactivation (CDA) capsule is coupled to the cam side end and includes an outer body having at least one slot formed therein, the outer body configured to be coupled to the rocker arm, and an inner plunger at least partially received within the outer body and having at least one outwardly extending tab. The inner plunger is configured to translate within the outer body, and the at least one outwardly extending tab is received within the at least one slot and a groove formed in the rocker arm to facilitate preventing rotation of the inner plunger and outer body relative to the rocker arm.
Valve Train for an Internal Combustion Engine of a Motor Vehicle, and Method for Operating Such a Valve Train
A valve train of an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle includes a rocker arm assigned to a first combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine where via the rocker arm a gas exchange valve assigned to the first combustion chamber is actuatable. An actuating device is assigned to a second combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine where via the actuating device, by supplying the actuating device with a hydraulic fluid, the second combustion chamber is switchable between a firing mode for fired operation and a braking mode for an engine braking operation of the internal combustion engine. A supply of the hydraulic fluid to the actuating device assigned to the second combustion chamber is adjustable by the rocker arm assigned to the first combustion chamber.
