Free-piston engine
10371045 · 2019-08-06 ·

A multicylinder internal combustion free-piston engine (FPE) with synchronized reciprocating plungers. The invention provides a solution for the problem of the slow engine speed typical of FPE's with heavy plunger mass. Bounce chambers fitted with sleeve valves control the engine's speed and stroke length. The invention's configuration prevents piston head-strikes and operates at standard compression ratios. Piston pop-top intake valves allow uniflow scavenging and connecting rod oil channels provide lubrication with no combustion chamber contamination. Poppet combustion head valves are operated by linear cams attached to the plungers. Hydraulic valve actuators implement variable valve timing under computer control.

LONGITUDINALLY ADJUSTABLE CONNECTING ROD COMPRISING A HYDRAULICALLY ACTUATED CONTROL DEVICE AND AN ELECTROMAGNETICALLY ACTUATED SWITCHING VALVE, RECIPROCATING PISTON ENGINE, AND VEHICLE

The invention relates to a longitudinally adjustable connecting rod (7) for a reciprocating piston engine, in particular a reciprocating piston internal combustion engine, a reciprocating piston engine, and a vehicle comprising a reciprocating piston engine. The longitudinally adjustable connecting rod (7) comprises a longitudinal adjusting mechanism (8) for adjusting an effective length (L) of the connecting rod, a hydraulically actuated control device (12), switchable at least between two control modes, for controlling the longitudinal adjustment, and an electromagnetically actuated hydraulic switching valve (9) for hydraulically actuating the control device (12).

Device and Method for Lubricating a Connecting Rod Bearing

A device lubricates a connecting rod bearing on a crankshaft of an internal combustion engine. The device has a piston having an internal piston cooling fluid channel, and an outlet channel in fluid communication with the fluid channel. The device has a connecting rod, which is connected to the piston in an articulated, in particular pivotable, manner, and has a large connecting rod eye and a connecting channel. The large connecting rod eye is formed for receiving the connecting rod bearing. The connecting channel forms a fluid connection between the outlet channel and the large connecting rod eye so that a fluid, in particular a cooling lubricating fluid (e.g. oil), can be fed, or is fed, from the fluid channel to the large connecting rod eye via the outlet channel and the connecting channel. The connecting rod bearing can be lubricated by cooling oil from the fluid channel of the piston.

Pressurized lubricating oil is accumulated in the bearings of opposed pistons and accumulated oil is dispensed therefrom for bearing lubrication and also for cooling the undercrowns of the pistons by jets of oil emitted from the bearings.

LENGTH-ADJUSTABLE CONNECTING ROD WITH ELECTROMAGNETICALLY-ACTUATABLE SWITCHING VAVLE

The invention relates to a length-adjustable connecting rod for a reciprocating piston engine, particularly a reciprocating piston internal combustion engine, comprising a hydraulic arrangement with which a length of the connecting rod can be adjusted, and a switching valve for controlling the inflow and outflow of a hydraulic medium into or out of the hydraulic arrangement, wherein the switching valve can be actuated electromagnetically.

CRANKCASE INSERT FOR CRANKSHAFT LUBRICATION

A vehicular engine insert may be configured to be disposed within a crankcase of the vehicular engine such that it comprises a body having a passage for a fluid flowable through the crankcase, a nozzle projecting outwardly from the body, and a channel through a thickness of the vehicular engine insert that creates a fluid interconnection between the passage and the nozzle such that the nozzle and the passage are substantially orthogonal to one another.
