Residual oil drainage system and related method for replacing an oil filter of an engine

A residual oil drainage system for use in replacement of the oil filter of an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The drainage system may include first and second drainage conduits disposed in the oil pan of the engine. The drainage conduits may be fluidly interconnected and coupled to portions of the oil inlet and outlet flow conduits which normally convey oil to and from the oil filter. A flow control device is movable to either open or close the drainage flowpath in the system. In use with an open flowpath and engine off, residual oil captured by the first and second drainage conduits flows through the drainage system and is returned to the oil reservoir in the oil pan via gravity. In one configuration, the drainage conduits are formed internally and directly within the body of the structure of the oil pan.

A system for collecting lube oil in an internal combustion engine with a rotating crankshaft assembly reduces lube oil aeration. The system includes a primary separation chamber arranged above an oil sump; an air interchange zone arranged above the primary separation chamber; an entrance aperture fluidly coupling the air interchange zone to the primary separation chamber; an exit aperture laterally spaced from the entrance aperture and fluidly coupling the primary separation chamber to the air interchange zone and for guiding air arising from the motion of the rotating crankshaft assembly from the primary separation chamber to the air interchange zone; and a main oil accumulation plate extending from the entrance aperture to the exit aperture and separating the primary separation chamber and the air interchange zone. The system further features a primary oil accumulation plate located above the exit aperture, extending towards the main oil accumulation plate at a first angle, and defining an airflow control aperture between the main oil accumulation plate and the primary oil accumulation plate through which fluids from the exit aperture are directed.

PLURAL CIRCUIT OIL FILTER

An apparatus facilitates multiple paths or circuits through an engine and remote housing for an oil filter. The apparatus includes a first oil filter chamber housing a first oil filter, a second oil filter chamber housing a second oil filter, a first output of the remote housing configured to provide a path from the first oil filter chamber housing to bearings of an engine, a second output of the remote housing configured to provide a path from the second oil filter chamber housing to a sump of the engine, and an input of the remote housing configured to provide a path from an oil pump of the engine to the first oil filter chamber housing.

An adaptor plug for a spin-on fluid filter, in particular for a spin-on return filter, wherein the adaptor plug comprises a plug-in end which is designed to be plugged into a cavity in a flange of a hydraulic device in a fluid tight manner and a filter end which is designed to be connected to the spin-on filter in a fluid tight, detachable manner and at least one internal fluid channel connecting said plug-in end with said filter end, wherein the adaptor plug at its filter end comprises a threaded tube or bolt on which the spin-on filter can be screwed. By this design, the use of a filter set with or without an adaptor ring between the adaptor plug and the filter is enabled. By the adaptor plug, the spin-on filter can be applied to a variety of hydraulic devices, among others, with a 16 UNF cavity.

A filter element is provided that separates a raw side from a clean side. A slide valve with a valve rod and a sealing head is provided, wherein the sealing head is arranged such that the liquid drain of the housing is closable but openable. A coupling is arranged between the sealing head and the valve rod, providing an axial securing action of the valve rod at the sealing head and a radial securing action, separate from the axial securing action, of the valve rod at the sealing head. A slide valve for such a filter system as well as a sealing head and a valve rod for such a slide valve are provided.
