Cooling jacket for exhaust valve and thermostat and cooling bottle

A coolant bottle defines a first chamber and a second chamber fluidly coupled to the first chamber at a valve seat. The first chamber is fluidly coupled to a source of heated engine cooling fluid, while the second chamber is fluidly coupled to an engine water pump. A thermally responsive actuator is disposed within the first chamber, and has a thermally actuated sliding member having a valve seat engaging surface. The thermally actuated sliding member is movable from a first open position to a second closed position when the coolant is above a first temperature. The thermally responsive actuator is disposed within the first chamber.

Engine coolant system and method

Methods and systems are provided for a coolant system coupled to cylinders in a locomotive engine. In one example, a coolant system coupled to an individual cylinder may include a cylinder liner jacket encircling the cylinder, a cylinder head lower coolant jacket surrounding a lower surface of a cylinder head placed over the cylinder, a cylinder head upper coolant jacket surrounding an upper surface of the cylinder head, and a cylinder head exhaust port cooling jacket surrounding an exhaust port of the cylinder. Coolant may flow to each of the cooling jackets from a coolant feed gallery located in the engine crankcase, and after flowing through the engine, the coolant may return to a coolant return gallery also located in the engine crankcase.

Engine cooling apparatus

Provided is an engine cooling apparatus capable of preventing deterioration in reliability of a cylinder head of an engine during cold engine operation. The engine cooling apparatus comprises an engine cooling water path, a heater core cooling path, and a radiator cooling water path, and further comprises a switching valve for switching among these cooling water paths. The switching valve is operable, when the temperature of an area around an exhaust valve is raised to a value greater than, e.g., 150° C., even in a situation where the temperature of cooling water for cooling the engine is equal to or less than, e.g., 50° C., to switch from the in-engine cooling water path to the heater core cooling water path.

Engine cooling system including cooled exhaust seats

A cooling system for a cylinder head of an internal combustion engine includes a cylindrical seat configured to engage an exhaust valve, a first coolant jacket, and a first conduit. The exhaust valve seat defines an annular cooling passage extending along a circumference of the cylindrical seat. A wall of the cylindrical seat defines a first opening into the annular cooling passage and a second opening into the annular cooling passage, where the first opening is positioned diametrically opposite to the second opening. The first coolant jacket is positioned adjacent to a fire-deck of the internal combustion engine. The first conduit fluidly couples the first coolant jacket to the at least one of the first opening and the second opening to the annular cooling passage in the exhaust valve seat.

Engine cooling structure

An engine cooling structure includes a cylinder block including a block inner peripheral wall and a block outer peripheral wall that define a water jacket, and a spacer housed in the water jacket. The block outer peripheral wall includes a coolant inlet for introducing a coolant into the water jacket at one end in a cylinder row direction. The spacer includes a peripheral wall surrounding the block inner peripheral wall, and a dividing wall and a distribution wall provided on the peripheral wall. The dividing wall is provided along a circumferential direction of the peripheral wall and protrudes outward from the peripheral wall between a lower end and an upper end of the coolant inlet. The distribution wall includes an upper distribution wall extending upward from the dividing wall and a lower distribution wall extending downward from the dividing wall.
