Internal combustion engine comprising a turbocharger with variability at the compressor inlet
An internal combustion engine having a turbocharger with variability at the compressor inlet, and a turbocharger. An internal combustion engine having a turbocharger, and a turbocharger, are described. A device which both performs a change in the cross section of the compressor inlet and brings about an adjustment of the exhaust gas recirculation rate is arranged in the region of the compressor inlet. As a result, the turbocharger is of space-saving and low-cost construction in the compressor inlet region.
SYSTEM FOR TURBOCHARGER PERFORMANCE MONITORING AND ADAPTATION
New and/or alternative approaches to physical plant performance control that can account for the health of the physical plant. A physical plant may be controlled by configurable controller, which may further comprise a low level controller associated with a higher level controller such as an Engine Control Unit (ECU). The ECU uses modeling to calculate an estimated operating value of a first parameter in the physical plant, and also uses a sensor to measure an operating value of the first parameter. The measured and modeled values are compared to determine the state of health (SOH) of the physical plant or a component thereof. The SOH may be stored, transmitted, or used to modify one or more control values used by the low level controller.
Method and system for controlling engine derating
The invention relates to a method of controlling engine derating of an internal combustion engine (10) being provided with a turbocharger (110) and a variable inlet guide vanes assembly (130) arranged upstream a compressor (120) of the turbocharger (110). The method comprises determining a current operational condition requiring engine derating, detecting a current operational condition of the compressor (120), and controlling the position of the variable inlet guide vanes assembly (130) based on the detected operational condition of the compressor (120).
CONTINUOUS VARIABLE TRIM COMPRESSOR
A continuous variable trim compressor includes: a plurality of rotary vanes provided in a passage of air flowing toward a compressor wheel; and a rotating device configured to rotate the plurality of rotary vanes simultaneously, wherein as the plurality of rotary vanes is rotated simultaneously by the rotating device, a cross-sectional area of the passage of air flowing toward the compressor wheel is variable.
Active casing treatment adapted with movable sleeve
Methods and systems are provided for a compressor adapted with a movable sleeve and an active casing treatment that form separate air flow chambers. In one example, a method includes flowing intake air in a first direction through a casing to an impeller of a compressor, selectively flowing intake air from the casing through a first chamber in an opposite, second direction, the first chamber circumferentially surrounding the casing, and selectively flowing intake air in the first direction through a second chamber to the impeller, the second chamber circumferentially surrounding the first chamber. In this way, compressor surge may be mitigated without reducing compressor efficiency at higher air flow rates.
Compressor override control
An engine system incorporating an intake manifold, a compressor, and a controller. The compressor may provide air to the intake manifold and the controller may be connected to the intake manifold and the compressor. The controller may receive a control signal and control air flow from the compressor to the intake manifold based on the received control signal. The controller may control the air flow from the compressor to the intake manifold based on a first equation when a value related to the control signal is on a first side of a threshold and according to a second equation when the value is on a second side of the threshold. The controller may control the air flow between the compressor and intake manifold according to the second equation to prevent the compressor from operating at a surge condition when controlling the air flow according to the first equation.

As a result, the turbocharger is of space-saving and low-cost construction in the compressor inlet region.
System and methods for detecting surge in an engine system
Various methods and systems are provided for detecting surge of a turbocharger during engine operation. As one example, a system includes an engine coupled to a low pressure turbocharger and a high pressure turbocharger; and a controller with non-transitory instructions stored in memory that when executed during operation of the engine cause the controller to: indicate an occurrence of surge of the high pressure turbocharger in response to a deviation of a modeled speed of the high pressure turbocharger from a measured speed of the high pressure turbocharger by a threshold amount, where the modeled speed tracks the measured speed during non-surge conditions, as engine operating conditions change.
Pressure relief valve apparatus, system and method
A pressure relief valve includes a hollow body having an inlet and an outlet, with the hollow body including at least one aperture extending through a surface of the hollow body. An actuator assembly is attached to the hollow body and a sleeve is slideably positioned about the hollow body, with the sleeve moveably attached to the actuator assembly. During operation, the actuator assembly moves the sleeve from a first position that covers the aperture to a second position that un-covers at least a portion of the aperture.
Method of operating a motor vehicle and motor vehicle
A method of operating a motor vehicle having an internal combustion engine, wherein the internal combustion engine has at least one combustion engine which is connected by a rotary drive via a transmission and optionally a clutch with powered wheels of the motor vehicle, and further comprises a fresh gas line, and wherein in the fresh gas line, a compressor is integrated, which is associated with a trim controller, by means of which an edge-side portion of the inlet cross section of a compressor impeller of the compressor is coverable to a variable extent. In this case, in a release position of the trim controller, the edge-side portion of the inlet cross section is covered relatively little, preferably the least possible, and in a covering position of the trim controller, is mostly covered, preferably as much as possible.
