11441504 · 2022-09-13 · ·

A controller for an internal combustion engine includes processing circuitry that executes a richening process until an exhaust sensor detects exhaust gas having a rich air-fuel ratio. The processing circuitry executes an air supplying process to supply a catalytic converter with air until the exhaust sensor detects that the exhaust gas has a lean air-fuel ratio. The processing circuitry cumulates the amount of air supplied to the catalytic converter until the exhaust sensor detects that the exhaust gas has a lean air-fuel ratio in the air supplying process. The air supplying process includes stopping fuel supplied to the one or more of the cylinders and performing combustion at an air-fuel ratio that is less than or equal to the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio in the remaining one or more of the cylinders.

Method for checking the function of a pressure sensor in the air intake tract or exhaust gas outlet tract of an internal combustion engine in operation and engine control unit

A method for checking the function of a pressure sensor in the air intake tract or gas outlet tract of an internal combustion engine and to an engine control unit for carrying out the method and based on measuring dynamic pressure oscillations of the intake air or the exhaust gas by the relevant pressure sensor and, on the basis of the pressure oscillation signal obtained, respectively determining with the aid of a discrete Fourier transformation for a number of selected signal frequencies in each case a value of a specific operating characteristic of the internal combustion engine and deviation values of the values determined for the different signal frequencies from one another. Depending on whether deviation values determined fall below or exceed a predetermined limit value, the satisfactory function of the pressure sensor is confirmed, or a malfunction of the pressure sensor is diagnosed.

MASS FLOW MEASUREMENT SYSTEM USING ADAPTIVE CALIBRATION AND SENSOR DIAGNOSTICS

New and/or alternative approaches to determine mass flow using a flow measurement device in a pulsatile flow context. The flow measurement device is configured to generate a delta-pressure measurement. A semi-physical valve model is generated for the flow measurement device, and the delta-pressure measurement is then is isolated using the model. A discharge coefficient map is determined for the flow measurement device by testing using sets of operating parameters for a system. The operating parameters of the system are then used to determine the discharge coefficient for use in estimating mass flow with the semi-physical valve model. The resultant estimated mass flow can be used to control the system, and a Factor of Effective Area estimate generated using the valve model can be used to determine the status of the flow measurement device and identify or predict a need for maintenance.

Engine

This engine includes an EGR device. The engine is provided with: an EGR gas temperature sensor; an EGR valve; an EGR control unit; an EGR valve position detection unit; a diagnosis unit; a first timer; a second timer; and a diagnosis control unit. The diagnosis unit diagnoses whether the EGR gas temperature sensor has failed, on the basis of a detected value from the EGR gas temperature sensor. The first timer, when the EGR valve is open, performs counting in accordance with the passage of time. The second timer, if a count value of the first timer is greater than or equal to a first threshold value set in advance, and if a predetermined condition is satisfied, performs counting in accordance with the passage of time. The diagnosis control unit prohibits diagnosis by the diagnosis unit if a count value of the second timer is less than a second threshold value set in advance, and permits the diagnosis if the count value is greater than or equal to the second threshold value.

Method and apparatus for controlling part load mode engine torque

A method and apparatus for controlling part load mode engine torque are provided. The method includes setting a limitation of part load mode engine torque based on a current traveling environment and calculating a first engine torque variation in the basis of state information of a battery. When the first engine torque variation is calculated, a second engine torque variation is calculated based on a measured engine error amount. The limitation of part load mode engine torque is compensated based on the calculated first and second engine torque variations.

Anomaly diagnostic device for onboard internal combustion engine

An anomaly diagnostic device for an onboard internal combustion engine includes a parameter deriving unit and a leaking anomaly diagnostic unit. The parameter deriving unit is configured to derive a determination parameter such that, when a PCV pressure sensor value that indicates a pressure detected by a PCV pressure sensor is less than an atmospheric pressure, a value of the determination parameter increases as the difference between the PCV pressure sensor value and the atmospheric pressure increases. The leaking anomaly diagnostic unit is configured to perform a leaking anomaly diagnostic process that diagnoses that there is an anomaly at a portion of a blow-by gas passage that is closer to an intake passage than to a connection portion of the PCV pressure sensor when the determination parameter derived when an intake air amount changes is less than a threshold.
