CARBON CANISTER WITH INTEGRATED FUEL TANK ISOLATION VALVE
20230008621 · 2023-01-12 ·

A fuel tank vent valve includes a venting apparatus for regulating discharge of fuel vapor from a fuel tank and admission of outside air into a fuel tank. The vent valve is used to regulate pressure in a fuel tank.

Low emission adsorbent and canister system

The present description provides low DBL bleed emission performance properties that allows the design of evaporative fuel emission control systems that are simpler and more compact than those possible by prior art by inclusion of a vent-side volume comprising a parallel passage adsorbent such as a carbon honeycomb with narrow channel width and low cell pitch.

Honeycomb adsorbent, method of manufacturing the honeycomb adsorbent and canister

A cylindrical column-shaped honeycomb adsorbent has a plurality of cell passages extending along an axial direction of the honeycomb adsorbent. The plurality of cell passages are configured so that a pitch of adjacent cell passages is within a range of 1.5 mm˜1.8 mm, and so that a thickness of a wall between the cell passages is within a range of 0.45 mm˜0.60 mm. With this configuration, the honeycomb adsorbent exhibits BWC (Butane Working Capacity) of 6.5 g/dL or greater. By mixing fibrous meltable core melting away during baking, the honeycomb adsorbent has macropores configured to have a volume of 0.15 mL/g˜0.35 mL/g with respect to an overall weight of the honeycomb adsorbent and metal oxide particles having a proportion of weight of 150˜250% with respect to the activated carbon.

Filter element integrated seal profile

An integrated seal member includes an at least partially annular body defining a longitudinal axis, a radial direction, and a circumferential direction. The at least partially annular body includes a mounting portion, a sealing portion including at least one top sealing feature and at least one bottom sealing feature, and an apertured connecting portion that extends radially outwardly from the mounting portion to the sealing portion.

Sorbent devices

Sorbent material sheets provide for enhanced performance in vapor adsorbing applications over conventional canisters and other emissions control equipment. The sorbent material sheets can be formed as part of a small, lightweight canister, or can be integrated into a fuel tank. The sorbent material sheets can also be used as part of an onboard refueling vapor recovery system to control volatile organic compound emissions from fuel tanks of gasoline vehicles, such as automobiles.

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR DIAGNOSING AN EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM
20230228235 · 2023-07-20 ·

Methods and systems for diagnosing operation of an evaporative emissions system are described. The methods and systems may include increasing an amount of vacuum stored in an evaporative emissions system during discontinuously operating an engine in a boosted operating mode. Storing vacuum allows the evaporative emissions system to reach a desired vacuum level to verify absence of an evaporative emissions system breech.

DIAGNOSTIC FOR A FUEL SYSTEM
20230014329 · 2023-01-19 ·

A vehicle includes an engine, a fuel tank, a primary canister, a buffer canister, a purge valve, a check valve, and a controller. The fuel tank is configured to store fuel. The primary canister is configured to receive and store evaporated fuel from the fuel tank. The buffer canister is configured to receive and store the evaporated fuel from the fuel tank. The buffer canister is disposed between the primary canister and the engine. The purge valve is disposed between the buffer canister and the engine. The purge valve is configured to direct the evaporated fuel from the primary and buffer canisters to the engine when open. The check valve is disposed between the primary and buffer canisters and is configured to restrict backflow of the evaporated fuel from the buffer canister toward the primary canister. The controller is programmed to diagnose the operability of the check valve.

NOISE ATTENUATING FUEL TRAP FOR EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CONTROL CANISTER SYSTEM
20230220820 · 2023-07-13 ·

A fuel vapor storage canister including an integral fuel trap is provided. The fuel trap includes bifurcated chambers with the dual purpose of trapping liquid trace and attenuating noise entering the canister shell and tank line. The upper chamber includes a baffle to block and collect liquid trace, the liquid trace falling through an opening in a partition for collection in a fuel trace collector. The fuel trace collector is suitably positioned within the lower chamber, immediately beneath the opening, and includes a cavity and a venturi. The venturi creates a region of low pressure during purging, which evacuates the cavity by suction. The cavity optionally includes an activated carbon billet, which maintains the pressure level in the fuel vapor line above a predetermined minimum value and which aids in converting the liquid trace to fuel vapor as well as in further attenuating noise escaping into the tank line.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR A FUEL VAPOR CANISTER HEATING ELEMENT

Methods and systems are provided for diagnosing a heating element coupled to a canister of an evaporative emissions control (EVAP) system. In one example, a method (or system) may include evacuating the canister at different temperature conditions, and diagnosing the heating element based on the different times taken to evacuate the canister at the different temperature conditions.
