Compact variable volume index valve for screw compressor background

A screw compressor and a compact variable volume index valve therefore are provided. The compact variable volume index valve includes a linear valve member positioned adjacent a compression chamber outlet end of a compression chamber of the screw compressor, an actuator structure coupled to the liner valve member and oriented to move the linear valve member radially along the compression: chamber outlet end of the compression chamber to adjust a radial location where gas exits the compression chamber, wherein the actuator structure is coupled to a shutter of a spiral valve of the screw compressor such that the actuator structure moves the liner valve based on a position of the spiral valve of the screw compressor.

COMPRESSOR

A compressor includes a discharge guide provided to communicate a discharge port and a bypass port to a discharge cover so that refrigerant discharged from the discharge port and the bypass port is guided to the discharge cover and a middle-pressure chamber formed by the fixed scroll, the back-pressure cover, and the discharge guide. The compressor according to the embodiments guarantees the space in which the bypass valve can be installed by a discharge guide mounted to a discharge portion of the fixed scroll, and at the same time forms the middle pressure portion, resulting in efficiency improvement of the compressor. The compressor according to the embodiments reduces noise and vibration generated from the discharge portion of the fixed scroll by the discharge guide.

A compressor may include first and second scrolls and a capacity-modulation system. The first and second scrolls include first and second end plates and first and second spiral wraps. The second end plate may define a suction inlet, a discharge passage, a modulation port, and a vent passage. The capacity-modulation system may include a control valve and a piston. The control valve is movable between first and second positions. The piston may be disposed within a recess in the second end plate and is movable between an open position in which communication between the modulation port and the vent passage is allowed and a closed position in which communication between the modulation port and the vent passage is prevented. Moving the control valve to the first position moves the piston to the closed position. Moving the control valve to the second position moves the piston to the open position.
