Cover for rotatable shaft of gas turbine engine
A gas turbine engine according to an exemplary aspect of the present disclosure includes, among other things, a rotatable shaft and a cover substantially covering an end of the rotatable shaft. The cover includes a passageway fluidly coupled from outside the shaft to inside the shaft. The cover further includes a fin configured to prevent oil from entering the passageway.
GAS TURBINE ENGINE SHAFT WITH LOBED SUPPORT STRUCTURE
An apparatus is provided for a gas turbine engine. This gas turbine engine apparatus includes a shaft base, a flange and a plurality of lobes. The shaft base extends axially along an axis between a shaft first end and a shaft second end. The flange is connected to the shaft base at the shaft first end. The flange projects radially out from the shaft base. The flange includes a plurality of fastener apertures, and the fastener apertures include a first fastener aperture. The lobes are arranged circumferentially about the axis. Each of the lobes is connected to and projects radially away from the shaft base. Each of the lobes is connected to and projects axially out from the flange. The lobes include a first lobe and a second lobe. The first fastener aperture is arranged circumferentially between the first lobe and the second lobe. The second lobe radially overlaps the first fastener aperture.
MIDSHAFT RATING FOR TURBOMACHINE ENGINES
A turbomachine engine includes a core engine having one or more compressor sections, one or more turbine sections that includes a power turbine, and a combustion chamber in flow communication with the compressor sections and turbine sections. The turbomachine engine also includes a shaft coupled to the power turbine and characterized by a midshaft rating (MSR) between two hundred (ft/sec).sup.1/2 and three hundred (ft/sec).sup.1/2. In one aspect, the shaft has a redline speed between fifty and two hundred fifty feet per second (ft/sec). In another aspect, the shaft has a length L, an outer diameter D, and a ratio of L/D between twelve and thirty-seven.
BEARING SUPPORT ASSEMBLY
A bearing support assembly to support one or more bearings on a shaft. The bearing support assembly includes a bearing support frame configured to be coupled to a static frame, a plurality of ribs connected to the bearing support frame, and a bearing support connected to the plurality of ribs and configured to support a bearing of the one or more bearings. The bearing support assembly has a non-axisymmetric stiffness around a circumference of the bearing support assembly.
Method of priming a pump of an aircraft engine
A method of priming a pump includes supplying lubricant, via a priming flow path, into an interface defined between a first part of a shaft of the pump and a second part of the shaft coaxially engaged with the first part of the shaft to define the pump, the first part of the shaft rotatable about a rotation axis relative to the second part of the shaft, and supplying lubricant into the interface via a lubrication flow path that is different from the priming flow path. A method of lubricating an aircraft motor of an aircraft engine, and a machine for an aircraft engine are also described.
Air starter with offset interface
An air starter for an engine, such as a turbine engine, that includes a turbine for rotatably extracting mechanical power from a flow of fluid. The turbine includes a drive shaft that can be coupled to an output shaft to provide a rotational output. The interface between the drive shaft and the output shaft can be offset.
Air turbine starter with primary and secondary air flow paths
An air turbine starter that includes a housing. The housing can circumscribe a turbine coupled that is coupled to a gear train in a gear box via a drive shaft. A primary air flow path is defined between a primary inlet and a primary outlet. Air in the primary air flow path can flow into a secondary air flow path or rotate the turbine, that converts energy from the air flow to rotational mechanical energy. Air in the secondary air flow path can pass through at least a first cavity and first passage before rejoining the primary air flow or joining ambient air.
Turbine shaft of a turbomachine and method for protecting against overspeed of said shaft
A turbine shaft of a turbomachine extending along a longitudinal axis (A) includes a main tubular portion with a length L1 and a maximum outer main diameter. The shaft further includes a secondary tubular segment with a length L2 and a maximum outer secondary diameter greater than the maximum outer main diameter. The secondary tubular segment extends radially from the shaft such that the main tubular portion extends on either side of the secondary tubular segment along the longitudinal axis (A). The secondary tubular segment includes a weak point that is configured to break the shaft into two distinct parts when the value of a tangential stress applied to the shaft exceeds a predetermined threshold value, and thus cause retraction of the turbine.
Turbine rotor with bolt fastening arrangement and passages
A turbine rotor in an embodiment is configured by joining a rotor component member and a rotor component member together by bolt fastening with an abutting end surface of the rotor component member and an abutting end surface of the rotor component member abutting on each other. The turbine rotor includes: a cylindrical recessed portion that is formed at the abutting end surface and is recessed in an axial direction; an axial passage bored from a bottom surface of the cylindrical recessed portion in the axial direction; an introduction passage introducing the cooling medium into the axial passage; a discharge passage discharging the cooling medium from the axial passage; and a sealing member that is arranged in the cylindrical recessed portion and seals one end of the axial passage.
