Method of forming a cure tool and method of forming a textured surface using a cure tool

A method of making a master cure tool for applying a texture to an aerodynamic surface includes the steps of: providing a foil which is metallic and has a textured surface; applying the foil to a forming surface of a rigid forming tool which is compound curved, and plastically deforming the foil to conform to the forming surface, so as to define a foil layer; annealing the foil layer using heat or a combination of heat and pressure; and bonding the foil layer to a support body, thereby defining the master cure tool.

Mixer assembly group for a turbofan engine

A mixer assembly group for a turbofan engine, having a primary flow channel extending along a central axis of the turbofan engine and a secondary flow channel. The mixer assembly group includes a mixer for guiding a first fluid flow from the primary flow channel and a second fluid flow from the secondary flow channel in the direction of an exhaust of the turbofan engine, as well as for intermixing the first and second fluid flows, and a connection appliance, which has at least one connection component that is fixated at the mixer and by means of which the mixer assembly group is to be fixated at two different first and second engine components of the turbofan engine, with are subject to operating temperatures of different heights during operation of the turbofan engine.

Sealing arrangement between turbine shroud segments

A shroud assembly for a turbine engine includes a seal for sealing a gap between a first mate face of a first shroud segment and a second mate face of a circumferentially adjacent second shroud segment. The seal is received in first and second slots formed respectively on the first and second mate faces. The first and second slots extend axially between a leading edge and a trailing edge of the respective shroud segment. The first slot is open at the leading and the trailing edges while the second slot is open at the leading edge and closed at the trailing edge. The seal has axially extending first and second sides which are receivable respectively within the first and second slots. The seal has an axial length substantially equal to tan axial length of the shroud segments and has a cutout on the second side at a trailing edge end of the seal.

An ejector including a mixing section; an inlet to the mixing section, the inlet comprising a first wall; a nozzle disposed in the inlet; the nozzle comprising the second wall defining a first channel through the nozzle, wherein the first wall and the second wall define a second channel through the inlet, the second wall has a trailing edge and a curved surface including a varying radius of curvature defining depressions extending to the trailing edge, a first flow of a first fluid into the second channel creates a pressure in the mixing section that draws a second flow of a second fluid through the first channel and into the mixing section, and the first flow and the second flow interact along the curved surface including the depressions and the trailing edge, forming a mixture comprising the first fluid and the second fluid. An outlet from the mixing section outputs the mixture, wherein the flow is well mixed and contains significant amounts of each fluid.

Plated polymer compressor

Plated polymeric gas turbine engine parts and methods for fabricating lightweight plated polymeric gas turbine engine parts are disclosed. The parts include a polymeric substrate plated with one or more metal layers. The polymeric material of the polymeric substrate may be structurally reinforced with materials that may include carbon, metal, or glass. The polymeric substrate may also include a plurality of layers to form a composite layup structure.

Tunable compliant attachment structure

A tunable compliant mount structure for an engine such as a turbine engine can include a fluid conduit coupled to a fan casing by a connector. At a junction between the connector and the fluid conduit, a compliant mount structure can provide compliance and can be tuned to operate under variable stresses at the junction. The compliant mount structure can include a set of nested convolutions to provide compliance. The geometry of the convolutions can be used to tune the compliance, stiffness, or directionality. The tunable compliant attachment structure provides for additive in-situ manufacturing at the fluid conduit.

Gas turbine engine compressor sections and intake ducts including soft foreign object debris endwall treatments

Gas turbine engine (GTE) compressor sections and compressor intake ducts are provided having Soft Foreign Object debris (SFOD) endwall treatments, which reduce peak damage to GTE components in the event of SFOD ingestion. In embodiments, the GTE compressor section includes a compressor rotor and a compressor intake duct. The compressor intake duct includes an intake flow passage, which extends through compressor intake duct to the compressor rotor. A first duct endwall extends around a centerline of the flow passage to bound a peripheral portion of the intake flow passage. An SFOD endwall treatment includes topological features formed in or otherwise provided on the first duct endwall. The topological features of the SFOD endwall treatment are configured such that SFOD impacting the topological features is directed in a radially inward direction toward the flow passage centerline prior discharge of the SFOD from the intake flow passage and into the compressor rotor.

Fan cowl with a serrated trailing edge providing attached flow in reverse thrust mode

An ultrashort nacelle configuration employs a fan cowl having an exit plane and a serrated trailing edge. A variable pitch fan is housed within the fan cowl. The variable pitch fan has a reverse thrust position inducing a reverse flow through the exit plane and into the fan cowl. The serrated trailing edge forms a plurality of vortex generators configured to induce vortices in the reverse flow.
