An oil pipe assembly for a gas turbine engine. The oil pipe assembly includes a first pipe that defines a first fluid passage between an oil supply and a bearing chamber, and a second pipe that houses the first pipe and defines a second fluid passage between the first pipe and the second pipe that is supplied with cooling air. The oil pipe assembly also includes a restrictor that extends from the second pipe and restricts the passage of fluid from the second fluid passage before it flows into a breather. Pressure and temperature sensors) are located adjacent the restrictor to detect and measure changes in air pressure and air temperature adjacent the restrictor from which a controller identifies whether a leak has occurred in the first pipe or the second pipe. A method for detecting a leak in the oil pipe assembly, and a gas turbine are also described.

PUMP SYSTEM FOR A GAS TURBINE ENGINE

A pump system for a gas turbine engine including a first pump connected to a fluid flow demand line for delivering fluid to a fluid flow demand and a second pump connected, in parallel to the first pump, to the fluid flow demand line and supplementing fluid to the actuation or burner system based on the fluid flow demand. A pressure regulating valve (PRV) is fluidly connected to the flow demand line for bypassing flow to a pump inlet pressure of the first pump and second pump, and controlling a modulated pressure flow signal to a bypass valve, wherein the bypass valve is in fluid communication with the second pump and the PRV for receiving modulated pressure from the PRV and regulating delivery of fluid from the second pump to a bypass flow line.

Method and apparatus for the start-up and control of pulse combustors using selective injector operation

A system and method is disclosed for the start-up and control of pulsejet engines and this system includes an Electronic Fuel Injection (“EFI”) system that further includes one or more electrically controlled fuel injectors that can be selectively operated for start-up and control of such pulsejet engines. According to the system and method, the rate and/or pattern of fuel delivery to pulsejet engines can be varied not only by controlling the amount of time the fuel injectors are open versus closed to define a “duty cycle,” but also with the capability to selectively disable one or more fuel injectors in the programmed manner for start-up and control of such pulsejet engines.

System and method for detection of excessive flow in a fluid system

There is provided a system and method for detecting excess flow in an engine fluid system, the method comprising sensing a temperature of a fluid flowing in a fluid line of the fluid system, the fluid line located downstream of a fluid flow restrictor configured to receive the fluid from a source upstream thereof and to flow the fluid from the source into the fluid line downstream thereof, comparing the temperature to a temperature threshold, and when the temperature is beyond the temperature threshold, detecting excess flow of the fluid in the fluid line and outputting an excess flow indication accordingly.

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR DETERMINING AN ENGINE TEMPERATURE

Methods and systems for determining an engine temperature for a gas turbine engine are provided. An estimated combustor temperature is determined based on at least one operating condition of the gas turbine engine and an estimated vane mass flow. A corrected vane mass flow is determined based on the estimated combustor temperature, the estimated vane mass flow, and a combustor pressure. The corrected vane mass flow is compared to a reference vane mass flow to obtain the mass flow correction factor. When a condition associated with the mass flow correction factor is not satisfied, the estimated combustor temperature is adjusted based on the mass flow correction factor to produce an adjusted combustor temperature; and the mass flow correction factor is updated based on the adjusted combustor temperature. When the condition associated with the mass flow correction factor is satisfied, the estimated combustor temperature is assigned as the engine temperature.

A fuel metering mechanism is disposed in the fuel feed conduit between the inlet end and the outlet end operable to regulate flow through the fuel feed conduit. A position feedback sensor is operatively connected to the fuel metering mechanism and operable to generate a signal indicative of a position of the fuel metering mechanism.

The engine includes a core flowpath formed by a compressor section, a heat addition system, and an expansion section in serial flow arrangement. A bleed circuit is extended from the core flowpath to extract a portion of compressed fluid from the core flowpath. The method and system include bleeding compressed fluid through a bleed circuit extended in fluid communication from the core flowpath of the engine; flowing the compressed fluid through the bleed circuit to a turbine rotor positioned at the bleed circuit; extracting, via the turbine rotor, energy from the flow of compressed fluid across the turbine rotor; and receiving energy at an electric machine operably coupled to the turbine rotor.

A fuel selection unit that controls a first flow of distillate fuel and a second flow of fuel oil to the combustor. A controller that receives feedback from a sensor and in response to the feedback from the sensor controls the fuel selection unit to start the gas turbine system on the fuel oil.
