A thermal energy system for use with an aircraft includes a cooling loop and a cooler. The cooling loop includes a fluid conduit and a pump configured to move fluid through the fluid conduit to transfer heat from a heat source to the fluid in the fluid conduit to cool the heat source. The cooler includes an air-stream heat exchanger located in a duct and is in thermal communication with the fluid conduit to transfer heat between the fluid in the cooling loop and the air passing through the duct.

A variable pitch fan for gas turbine engine is provided. The variable pitch fan includes a plurality of fan blades rotatably coupled to a disk and an actuation assembly for changing a pitch of each of the plurality of fan blades. The actuation assembly generally includes an actuation member operably connected to at least one of the plurality of fan blades and a pin. The pin is movable between a first position in which the pin is positioned at least partially in a channel defined in the actuation member, and a second position. The pin blocks movement of the actuation member relative to the pin past a range defined by the channel when in the first position. The actuation assembly further includes a retraction system for selectively engaging the pin in moving the pin from the first position to the second position.

A system and method of in situ verification of operational status of control components in a redundant flow control system is provided. The flow control system includes a primary electro-hydraulic servo valve (EHSV) and a secondary EHSV. Only the primary EHSV includes a position sensor. The redundant EHSVs are coupled via a transfer valve to control a position of a metering valve supplying fluid flow to at least one downstream system. The downstream system may be, e.g., a combustor, an actuator, an end effector, or a combination thereof.

The hydraulic clearance control device includes a first hydraulic cylinder moving any one of the pair of thrust bearings in a forward axial direction and a second hydraulic cylinder moving the other thrust bearing in the reverse axial direction. The cylinder locking device includes a first locking device restricting a forward moving distance of the first hydraulic cylinder and a second locking device restricting a reverse moving distance of the second hydraulic cylinder.

The present subject matter can be embodied in, among other things, a two-speed thrust reverser actuation system for actuating a thrust reverser element experiencing an assisting load during movement between a stowed and deployed positions. The system includes a hydraulic actuator to move the thrust reverser element between the stowed and deployed positions, and a directional control valve with a regeneration feature including a restrictor and a velocity fuse arranged in parallel with the restrictor. The velocity fuse is configured to close when the assisting load on the thrust reverser element increases the flow rate of hydraulic fluid through the velocity fuse above threshold value. In operation, the system defines a first movement speed when the velocity fuse is open, and a second movement speed when the velocity fuse is closed, thereby decreasing an effective exit orifice size of the hydraulic actuator when the assisting load increases the deploy rate.

TRIP SYSTEM FOR STEAM TURBINE

A trip system for a steam turbine closes a trip-and-throttle valve and a control valve of a steam turbine in an emergency. The trip system includes: an emergency shut-off device that shuts off supply of control oil for the trip-and-throttle valve and the control valve to close the trip-and-throttle valve and the control valve; and a drain device that includes a plurality of solenoid valves connected in parallel and drains the control oil by opening the solenoid valves. The emergency shut-off device includes a cylinder, a piston that slides in the cylinder, a spring that applies biasing force to the piston, a plurality of piston valves provided to the piston, and a plurality of chambers formed by the piston valves.
