Composite metal component and method of producing same
A method of producing a composite metal article and/or a composite metal wear component. The method including the following steps: casting a component composed of a host metal composition wherein one or more cavities are formed in the component during casting; inserting a wear resistant composition in solid form into the one or more cavities formed in the component composed of the host metal composition; and, bonding the wear resistant composition into the one or more cavities of the component composed of the host metal composition to form the composite metal article.
PUMP LINER
A pump liner for a centrifugal pump wherein the pump liner comprises a main pumping chamber, an inlet to the main pumping chamber and a discharge outlet extending from the main pumping chamber, wherein the pump liner is formed from at least two elastomeric compounds including a first compound and a second compound, the first compound having a different hardness to the second compound and wherein the liner is composed of the second compound at locations which in use are subject to erosive, impingement and/or directional wear.
HIGH TEMPERATURE SEAL AND METHOD
An embodiment of a turbine assembly includes, among other possible things, a first component including a first component surface, a second component including a second component surface spaced apart from the first component surface, and a brush seal disposed between the first component and the second component. The brush seal includes, among other things, a first bristled region extending in a first direction from a backing plate, and sealingly engaging one of the first component surface and the second component surface. At least one of the backing plate and the first bristled region includes a nickel-based superalloy material having at least 40% of a Ni.sub.3(Al,X) precipitate phase, X being a metallic or refractory element other than Al.
Low friction, wear resistant piston seal
A piston seal assembly for a gas turbine engine includes a seal composed of a nickel-based superalloy; a component in contact with the seal and defining a seal-counterface; and a coating on the seal at the seal-counterface, wherein the coating is a metal alloy binder phase and a hard particle phase distributed through the binder phase.
Steam valve and steam turbine
A steam valve includes a valve body having a valve seat in a steam channel, a valve stem configured to close the steam channel by coming in contact with the valve seat and to open the steam channel by moving from the valve seat and a guide portion configured to slidably guide the valve stem in a moving direction thereof. The guide portion has a guide body that encloses the valve stem from a radial outer side of the valve stem and a guide bush that is detachably fixed inside the guide body, has an inner surface which abuts and slides on an outer circumferential surface of the valve stem, and is formed of a material having corrosion resistance.
Actuation lever for turbine VTG
A lever for a VTG guide vane arrangement of a radial turbine with a main body with a fork-shaped coupling section with two limbs. A wear-resistant contact block is arranged on an inner side of at least one of the limbs. The wear-resistant contact block is designed for operative engagement with an adjusting ring of the VTG guide van arrangement, giving rise to the effect of increased wear resistance at least in the region of the engagement with the VTG guide vane arrangement. Furthermore, a VTG guide vane arrangement having such a lever, a radial turbine having such a VTG guide vane arrangement, and a supercharging device having such a radial turbine.
Ductile alloys for sealing modular component interfaces
A vane assembly (10) having: an airfoil (12) and a shroud (14) held together without metallurgical bonding there between; a channel (22) disposed circumferentially about the airfoil (12), between the airfoil (12) and the shroud (14); and a seal (20) disposed in the channel (22), wherein during operation of a turbine engine having the vane assembly (10) the seal (20) has a sufficient ductility such that a force generated on the seal (20) resulting from relative movement of the airfoil (12) and the shroud (14) is sufficient to plastically deform the seal (20).
Time lapse shooting apparatus and observation method
A certain material irregularly expressed in an observation area is effectively observed. An observing apparatus includes a first observing unit performing a time lapse shooting of a predetermined observation area, a first discriminating unit discriminating whether or not a first material is expressed in the observation area based on an image obtained by the first observing unit, and a second observing unit starting a time lapse shooting relating to a part where the first material is expressed at a timing when the first material is expressed in the observation area, in which a shooting frequency of the time lapse shooting by the second observing unit is higher than a shooting frequency of the time lapse shooting by the first observing unit.
Wear resistant turbine blade tip
A gas turbine engine includes: a turbine section including a casing extending circumferentially about a plurality of turbine blades and having at least one seal member coated with an abradable coating. At least one turbine blade has sides and a tip and at least one seal member is located adjacent to the tip of the at least one turbine blade. The tip of the at least one turbine blade has a wear resistant layer and an abrasive coating disposed on the wear resistant layer. The wear resistant layer has a thickness less than or equal to 10 mils (254 micrometers) and includes metal boride compounds.
Wear resistant airfoil tip
A gas turbine engine includes an engine static structure extending circumferentially about an engine centerline axis; a compressor section, a combustor section, and a turbine section within the engine static structure. At least one of the compressor section and the turbine section includes at least one airfoil and at least one seal member adjacent to the at least one airfoil. A tip of the at least one airfoil is metal having a wear resistant coating and the at least one seal member is coated with an abradable coating. The wear resistant coating is formed as a layer in a base metal surface of the airfoil, has a thickness less than or equal to 10 mils (254 micrometers) and includes metal boride compounds.
