Mechanical system comprising a shaft coupled to a bearing, and method for manufacturing such a system
The present invention relates to a mechanical system (1), comprising a bearing (4) and a shaft (10) coupled to the bearing (4), especially for an internal combustion engine, being subjected to average contact pressures of less than 200 MPa. The shaft (10) has at least one area (12) provided with an anti-seizing surface coating (20), having a surface hardness at least twice that of the bearing (4), and a microtexturation (30) comprised of a set of individual microcavities (31), distributed in said area (12). The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing such a mechanical system (1).

CARBURIZED BEARING
There is provided a carburized bearing that is excellent in rolling contact fatigue life with a change in structure under a hydrogen-generating environment. In the carburized bearing, a chemical composition of a core portion consists of, in mass %, C: 0.25 to 0.45%, Si: 0.10 to 0.50 %, Mn: 0.40 to 0.70 %, P: 0.015% or less, S: 0.005% or less, Cr: 0.80 to 1.50%, Mo: 0.17 to 0.30%, V: 0.24 to 0.40%. Al: 0.005 to 0.100%, N: 0.0300% or less, O: 0.0015% or less, and the balance being Fe and impurities, and satisfies Formula (1) to Formula (4) described in the present specification. A proportion of a total area of CaO—CaS—MgO—Al.sub.2O.sub.3 composite oxides with respect to a total area of oxides in the carburized leaping is 30.0% or more, and a number density of oxides having an equivalent circle diameter of 20.0 μm or more is 15.0 pieces/mm.sup.2or less.
CRANKSHAFT AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THE SAME
A crankshaft with improved seizure resistance is provided. A crankshaft having journals 11 and pins 12 includes a compound layer containing iron and nitrogen on its surface, wherein, in the compound layer, for both the journals 11 and pins 12, the porosity area ratio of the thinner one of a region from the surface to a depth of 3.0 μm and a region across the total thickness of the compound layer is not higher than 10.0%, and both the journals 11 and pins 12 have such a surface geometry that the arithmetical mean deviation of the primary profile, Pa, is not larger than 0.090 μm.

A plain bearing assembly of a rotational element on a bearing pin, the assembly including a bearing bolt, a bearing sleeve, which is non-rotatably mounted on the pin and which has a first bearing surface formed on its outer circumference, a rotational element which is rotatably mounted on the bearing sleeve and which has a second bearing surface that is formed on its inner circumference and that is slidingly mounted on the first bearing surface. The bearing pin has at least one lubricant channel opening onto the outer side of the pin and the bearing sleeve has a radial groove formed on its inner circumference, which groove communicates with the radial lubricant channel, and at least one opening branching off radially from the radial groove and opening towards the rotational element. The rotational element has a radial groove formed on its inner circumference and communicating with the opening and the first bearing surface is harder than the second bearing surface.
Thrust bearing pad having metallic substrate
A thrust bearing pad includes a relatively low wear and low friction contact layer disposed on a metallic substrate. The metallic substrate allows a manufacturer to couple the thrust bearing pad to a corresponding metallic thrust bearing in a relatively secure manner while the contact layer extends the operating life of the thrust bearing and minimizes maintenance.
Sliding member
A sliding member of the present invention includes a coating on a base material. The coating contains hard metal particles and corrosion-resistant metal particles that have hardness lower than that of the hard metal particles. The hard metal particles contain particles that have at least Vickers hardness of 600 Hv or higher. The corrosion-resistant metal particles are made of at least one kind of metal selected from the group consisting of copper (Cu), cobalt (Co), chromium (Cr), and nickel (Ni), or are made of an alloy containing said metal. The coating has a cross section in which the hard metal particles are dispersed in an island manner in a particle aggregate of the corrosion-resistant metal particles and in which an area ratio of the corrosion-resistant metal particles is 30% or larger. Thus, corrosion of the hard metal particles in the coating is prevented, whereby the sliding member maintains wear resistance for a long time.
Bearing cage treated with plasma-nitriding
A method of forming a bearing cage is generally disclosed herein. The method includes (i) forming a bearing cage from either titanium or a titanium alloy; and (ii) applying a plasma-nitriding treatment to at least one surface of the bearing cage to form a compound layer of titanium nitride including TiN and Ti.sub.2N on an outer region of the at least one surface. Step (ii) further forms a diffusion zone adjacent to the outer region, in one aspect. A surface hardness of the bearing cage that is treated by the plasma-nitriding step is at least 1000 HV. The bearing cage is configured to be used in a turbofan, turboprop, or turboshaft engine or in a helicopter gearbox, in one aspect.
Carbo-nitriding process for martensitic stainless steel and stainless steel article having improved corrosion resistance
A method for producing a case-hardened martensitic stainless steel article includes: providing an article comprised, at least in part, of a martensitic stainless steel, carburizing the article within a temperature range of 1625° F.-1680° F. (885° C.-916° C.), and then carbo-nitriding the article within a temperature range of 1575° F.-1625° F. (857° C.-885° C.). An article, such as a bearing ring, comprising such a case-hardened martensitic stainless steel is also disclosed.
BEARING COMPONENT & METHOD
Bearing component providing unaffected material that has a surface, which has been subjected to a hard machining process during where the temperature of the surface did not exceed the austenitizing temperature of the unaffected material. The surface of the bearing component includes a white layer formed during the hard machining process. The white layer has a nano-crystalline microstructure that includes grains having a maximum grain size up to 500 nm. The white layer is located directly adjacent to the unaffected material of the bearing component, where no dark layer is formed during the hard machining process.
