Rotor drive key assembly

In some examples, an assembly includes a rotor drive key configured to fit around a wheel boss defined by a wheel of a vehicle. The rotor drive key includes a support member. The assembly further comprises a fastener configured to extend through the wheel boss and the support member in a substantially axial direction of the wheel when the rotor drive key is fit around the wheel boss. A fastening member is configured to engage with a portion of the fastener extending beyond the support member.

The present invention provides a wheel hub for a vehicle, including: a) a wheel axle defining an axis of rotation for the wheel; b) a hub body rotatably coupled to the axle for rotation about the axis of rotation, the hub body defining an internal cavity; and, c) a braking assembly, including: i) at least one first annular plate disposed within the internal cavity about the axle, the at least one first annular plate rotatably fixed with respect to the hub body so as to rotate therewith about the axis of rotation; ii) at least one second annular plate disposed within the internal cavity about the axle and adjacent to the at least one first annular plate, the at least one second annular plate rotatably fixed with respect to the axle, and at least one of the first and second annular plates being slidably movable within at least part of the internal cavity; and, iii) an actuator disposed within the internal cavity and configured in use, to cause an axial load to be applied to the slidably movable plate to thereby cause the at least one first and second annular plates to frictionally engage thereby applying a braking load between the hub body and wheel axle so as to brake the wheel of the vehicle.

A system, and associated method, for reducing oxidation of a friction disk may include a braking assembly comprising the friction disk and a coolant loop coupled to the braking assembly, with the coolant loop being configured to circulate liquid coolant from the braking assembly. That is, the coolant loop may be configured to reduce the temperature of the braking assembly, thus reducing the rate/extent of oxidation of the friction disks and potentially enabling the concentration of oxygen around the braking assembly to be reduced.

A radial piston machine includes a rotor within a housing that is rotatable about an axis, a shaft coupled to the rotor, a distributor which surrounds the shaft and cannot rotate with the rotor and that contacts the rotor in an axial direction, a plurality of brake discs including first brake discs and second brake discs arranged side-by-side along the axis, wherein the first brake discs are coupled to the housing for torque transmission, and the second brake discs are coupled to the shaft for torque transmission, and an actuator configured to releasably exert a brake force in the axial direction on the brake discs. The distributor is located axially between the rotor and the actuator, and the brake discs are located axially between the distributor and the actuator. When the brake force is exerted the brake force is supported by the distributor in the axial direction.

In some examples, a brake system includes a piston configured to cause a compression of a disc stack. The piston includes a piston body configured to compress a cap face of a piston cap against a pressure plate to cause the compression of the disc stack. The cap face may define a convex surface. The piston cap may be configured such that the convex surface reduces it curvature when the cap face is compressed against the pressure plate. In examples, the piston cap is configured to elastically deform to cause the cap face to reduce the curvature when the cap face is compressed against the pressure plate.

Brake disc insert with bridge member

In some examples, a drive insert for a drive slot of a brake disc includes a first insert member configured to cover a first surface of the drive slot, a second insert member configured to cover a second surface of the drive slot, and a bridge member configured to extend between the first insert member and the second insert member. The bridge member is configured to limit movement of the first insert member and the second insert member in a tangential direction of the brake disc when the bridge member extends from the first insert member to the second insert member. In some examples, the bridge member is configured to be in compression between the first insert member and the second insert member.
