The shift device includes: a shift lever provided with an operation portion that is configured to receive a shift operation; a shift sensor provided on the shift shaft so as to be integrally rotatable with the shift shaft; and a shift rod that couples the shift lever and the shift sensor. The shift sensor is configured to detect the shift operation on the shift lever in accordance with a movement of the shift rod. The operation portion and the shift sensor are positioned at the same side in a manner of sandwiching the shift rod in a vehicle side view.

The apparatus has a selector shaft, which can be actuated rotationally, and a gear-selector drum, which can be actuated rotationally. The gear-changing apparatus has a gear-change lever provided for actuating the selector shaft, and is adapted for influencing the output torque of the drive engine. One or more magnetic sensor(s), such as Hall effect sensors, are provided for sensing rotational actuation of the selector shaft and, optionally, for sensing rotational actuation of the gear selector drum. The sensor(s) send a signal to a controller and mechanisms known for affecting a change in gear to a lower or higher gear.

There is provided a motorcycle. A crankshaft extends in a width direction of the motorcycle. A counter shaft is arranged in parallel with the crankshaft. A clutch mechanism is arranged at one end of the counter shaft and is configured to transmit and disconnect rotation of the crankshaft to and from the counter shaft. A clutch actuator is configured to perform a disconnection/connection operation of the clutch mechanism. A shift mechanism is arranged below the counter shaft and is configured to shift and transmit the rotation of the crankshaft to a driving wheel. A shift actuator is configured to perform a shift operation of the shift mechanism. The shift actuator is arranged opposite to the shift mechanism in a front and rear direction of the motorcycle with the clutch actuator being interposed therebetween.

A controller includes: an automatic shifting control section that carries out automatic shifting control in which a shifting actuator is driven in response to a predetermined automatic shifting command; and an interference prevention control section that controls the automatic shifting control section so as to prohibit simultaneous occurrence of a manual shifting process induced by operation of a shifting operation member and an automatic shifting process induced by the shifting actuator.
