Face Seal with Backup Ring
A face seal includes first and second members which are mounted together, a seal member, and a backup ring. The first member extends along a longitudinal axis and defines an interior cavity. The first and second members each includes a respective sealing surface that extends radially relative to the longitudinal axis. At least one of the sealing surfaces defines an annular groove. The seal member is disposed within the annular groove and is in sealing contact with the sealing surfaces. The backup ring is disposed within the annular groove such that the seal member is radially inward of the backup ring. One sealing surface is movable relative to the other sealing surface in response to increased interior cavity pressure, thereby defining a gap therebetween. The backup ring is interposed between the seal member and the gap such that the backup ring occludes an opening to the gap.
Well control sealing system
A blowout preventer includes a main body having a through bore and defining a passage transverse to the through bore. A seal is disposed in the main body and arranged to restrict fluid flow from the through bore to the passage. The seal comprises a seal body formed as a closed loop having an upper surface and a lower surface, wherein the seal body comprises an inner wall and an outer wall. The lower surface comprises at least one wing extending laterally from the outer surface to provide a lateral sealing surface. The upper surface comprises at least one raised portion to provide a sealing surface.
Lip seals and related methods
Seal assemblies, gaskets, bearing assemblies, and their components can be used as pre-packaged seal systems and pre-packaged seal and bearing systems. The seal assemblies can be orientated in different configurations for different applications. Gaskets or washers to restrict flow and gaskets or washers with memory lips to operate as sealing lips can be included to increase the number of sealing points. In a pre-packaged configuration, the cylinder can be a straight cylinder, a stepped cylinder, or a split cylinder. Bearing assemblies can be pre-packaged with the sealing assemblies and service grease may optionally be used to provide lubrication and limit fluid incursion into the spring cavities.
SEAL ASSEMBLIES FOR USE WITH FLUID VALVES
Seal assemblies for use with fluid valves are described. An example apparatus includes a cage; a plug including a seal gland; and means for sealingly engaging an inner surface of the cage at least partially positioned in the seal gland and including a first portion and a second portion, in response to a fluid acting on the first portion in a first direction, the first portion to engage, outwardly urge, and splay the second portion to sealingly engage the cage, in response to the fluid acting in a second direction, the second portion to deter the fluid from acting on the first portion, the first direction opposite the second direction.
SEAL FOR PRESSURIZED FLUID AND OPEN INTERFACE GAP
A seal is adapted to be received in an annular groove in a first member and is compressed against a groove bottom by a second member that defines a gap between the first and second members. The seal includes a reinforcement member and an elastomer body over-molded on the reinforcement member. The reinforcement member is disposed on an outboard side of the elastomer body and the elastomer body extends both above and below the reinforcement member. The compression of the seal causes the elastomer body to deform such that the reinforcement member provides a reinforcement substantially along the entire gap to prevent the elastomer body of the seal from being extruded through the gap.
Packing assembly for a pump
A header ring for use in a stuffing box comprising an annular body portion of an elastomeric material, an annular radially inward projecting sealing lip portion formed on said body portion and an annular, axially facing pedestal portion formed on said body portion, said pedestal portion defining an annularly extending radially inwardly facing pedestal surface, the sealing lip portion defining an annularly extending, radially inward facing sealing surface, the sealing surface and the pedestal surface forming a juncture, at least a portion of the pedestal portion adjacent the juncture and forming the pedestal surface and at least a portion of the sealing lip portion adjacent the juncture and forming a portion of the sealing surface being comprised of a layer of reinforced elastomeric material bonded to the body portion.
Sealing structure
A sealing structure has a sealing device which is a plane seal disposed in an annular groove provided in one of two members and which seals the annular gap between the two members. The sealing device includes a seal member made of a rubber-shaped elastic body and disposed on a high-pressure side and a backup ring made of a resin mounted adjacent to the seal member on a low-pressure side of the seal member. The backup ring has a ring-like shape with ends in which a notch is formed in a part thereof, and the notch extends parallel to the thickness direction of the backup ring, and extends so as to intersect the radial direction of the backup ring. The seal member and the backup ring are disposed between the two members in a state of being pressurized from the two members, respectively.
Packing assembly with threaded sleeve for interaction with an installation tool
A packing assembly includes a packing sleeve having a first sleeve portion and a second sleeve portion, wherein a first sleeve portion outer diameter is larger than a second sleeve portion outer diameter and a first sleeve portion inner diameter is larger than a second sleeve portion inner diameter. The packing assembly also includes a groove formed in the second sleeve portion outer diameter. The packing assembly further includes a shoulder formed at a transition between the first sleeve portion and the second sleeve portion. The packing assembly includes a shelf formed at the transition between the first sleeve portion and the second sleeve portion. The packing assembly also includes a plurality of packing components arranged within the first sleeve portion inner diameter, at least a portion of the plurality of packing components engaging the shelf. The packing assembly further includes a seal positioned within the groove.
Fluid end with clamped retention
A fluid end assembly comprising a plurality of fluid end sections positioned in a side-by-side relationship. Each section comprises a housing containing a reciprocating plunger. One and only one packing seal is installed within the housing and surrounds and engages an outer surface of the plunger. A retainer compresses and holds the packing seal within the housing. The retainer is secured to the housing using a clamp, such that no threads are formed in the housing of the fluid end section and no threads are formed in the retainer.
Variable back-up ring and a sealing structure having the same
A sealing structure includes a first connector body having a groove, a second connector body encompassing the first connector body, an O-ring partially received in the groove of the first connector body, and a variable back-up ring partially received in the groove of the first connector body and holding the O-ring. The variable back-up ring is deformable in a radial direction depending on a magnitude of a fluid pressure applied between the first connector body and the second connector body.
