Networked LED lighting system

An improved LED lighting system is provided for overhead ceiling lighting, as well as for other uses. The LED lighting system comprises elongated linear lamps having an LED luminary as a source of illumination and configured to operate as a node of an automated networked lighting system. The linear LED lamps have internal modular network connectors and control components so that they can receive control data and power signals over a single network cable according to a standardized power and data network communications architecture such as Ethernet. The system includes connector assemblies designed to securely mount the networkable linear LED lamps to conventional tube lamp lighting fixtures or to another support housing and to provide integrated power and data connectivity to internal components of the lamps. In one form, the disclosed system includes a network enabled snap-fit connector assembly mounted to a lighting fixture and configured to provide Ethernet power and data connectivity to the lamp. The LED lamps have first and second mechanical connectors at opposite ends of the lamp body, and the snap-fit connectors are configured to secure the lamps to an overhead lighting fixture or other support structure as an incident of the lamp ends moving relative to the mounting connectors in a substantially straight path that is transverse to the length of the body into an engaged position. The snap-fit connectors are also configured to form a network connection with an internal modular network connector associated with the lamp with the lamp mounted in its operative state on a support. In another form, a clipping mechanism is provided for mounting linear networkable LED lamps to an overhead grid ceiling system.

An adapter bracket is employed to couple the LED lighting apparatus to a junction box installed and positioned above the ceiling such that when the apparatus is snapped into the junction box, the driver module cover is at least partially disposed in the junction box.

A lighting fixture configured to expand and collapse, and methods for expanding and collapsing a light fixture are disclosed. Embodiments of the lighting fixture include a lighting fixture with a movable section that collapses into at least one cavity in a base housing for storage and shipment, and extends from the cavity for operation. In the collapsed configuration the lighting fixture fits into a smaller container than when the lighting fixture is in the expanded configuration. In some embodiments a locking member locks the movable section into its extended position and can be retracted by a user by manually disengaging the locking member. Accessories and extenders that can be attached to the lighting fixture can be stored in the one or more cavities into which the movable section is stowed in the collapsed configuration.

Water-resistant extruded housing for emergency lighting component

A housing and an endcap may provide a water-resistant enclosure for an emergency lighting component. An upper side of the housing may include a curved surface extending above a vertical side of the housing. The vertical side may include an inclined surface and an extended edge that provide a first concave opening below the curved surface. A base side of the housing may include a curved surface extending partially below the vertical side. The vertical side may include an additional extended edge and a curved surface that provide a second concave opening where the vertical side joins the base side. The endcap may include a rim that overlaps a portion of the housing. The first or second concave openings may receive fasteners to attach the endcap. Mounting brackets may attach to the first or second concave openings, such as to attach the housing to a surface.

Emergency backup ready downlight

A method of adding a backup power source to a luminaire that includes exposing driver circuitry through a back surface of a housing for a luminaire having a downlight geometry. The housing contains a light engine that is positioned to emit light through a light emission end of the housing. The driver electronics controls power received by the luminaire for powering the light engine. The method may continue with connecting a battery junction box having an electrical pathway opening in reversible engagement to the back surface of the housing by snap fit engagement. The method may further include connecting a backup battery unit to the luminaire by wiring extending from the battery backup unit through the electrical pathway opening in the junction box to the driver electronics for the luminaire.
