Heat exchange structures and methods of exchanging heat between fluid flows in heat exchange structures
A heat exchange structure includes a primary heat exchange body with a first fluid channel fluidly separated from a second fluid channel by a barrier channel, an inlet manifold in fluid communication with the first fluid channel, and a secondary heat exchange body. The secondary heat exchange body is in fluid communication with the barrier channel, is arranged within the inlet manifold, and fluidly couples the barrier channel to the external environment. Fluid systems and heat exchange methods are also described.
Tuned multilayered material systems and methods for manufacturing
A multilayered material system includes at least one of a liner sheet and a cellular core, and a multilayered composite joined to the at least one of a liner sheet and a cellular core. The multilayered composite includes hollow microspheres dispersed within a metallic matrix material.
THERMAL MANAGEMENT APPARATUS
There is provided a thermal management apparatus for use with a vehicle comprising: a chassis in thermal contact with one or more first components that require thermal management and one or more second components that require thermal management, wherein the chassis is configured to transfer heat from the one or more first components to the one or more second components.
Avionics heat exchanger
Aircraft turbine engines are controlled by complex electronic devices such as FADEC and PSS units. These devices can be adversely impacted by the engine environment including the condensing of evaporated water. Aspects of the present disclosure include unique heat exchangers to control the temperature of these electronic devices to assure their proper operation.
THERMAL DEVICE
A thermal device includes a plate defining a plurality of convex curves and a plurality of concave curves. Each convex curve is positioned between a pair of adjacent concave curves of the plurality of concave curves. Each concave curve is positioned between a pair of adjacent convex curves of the plurality of convex curves. Each concave curve defines a vertex. The thermal device also includes a plurality of pins. Each pin of the plurality of pins extends from the vertex of a different concave curve of the plurality of concave curves and extends away from the plate.
Advanced cooling system using throttled internal cooling passage flow for a window assembly, and methods of fabrication and use thereof
A window assembly heat transfer system is disclosed in which a window member has a selected transparency to monitored or sensed electromagnetic wavelengths. One or more passages are provided in the window member for flowing a single-phase or two-phase heat transfer fluid. A mechanism allows either evaporation or condensation of the fluid and/or balancing of a flow of the fluid within the passages. In one embodiment, the window assembly can be made by producing passages in a top surface of a first single plate, optionally producing passages in a bottom surface of a second single plate and bonding the top surface of the first plate to a bottom surface of a second single plate to form the window member with the passage or passages. In another embodiment, the window assembly can be made by providing a core around which the window member material is grown and thereafter removing the core to produce the passage or passages.
Fluid probe with heat spreader structure and thermal energy source
A fluid probe includes a heat spreader structure that defines therein a fluid chamber that is in fluid communication with an external environment of the probe, and a thermal energy source in thermal communication with the heat spreader structure. The heat spreader structure may be made from heat pipes, which function as both temperature-control elements and structural elements. The thermal coupling of the heat spreader structure and the thermal energy source may be used to transfer heat between the two, heating, cooling, and/or maintaining temperature of the heat spreader structure. The fluid probe may have any of a variety of uses, for example being a pitot tube for an aircraft, a fluid sampling device, a medical device, or a device for injecting a fluid.
Heat exchangers
A heat exchanger which may be used in an engine, such as a vehicle engine for an aircraft or orbital launch vehicle. is provided. The heat exchanger may be configured as generally drum-shaped with a multitude of spiral sections, each containing numerous small diameter tubes. The spiral sections may spiral inside one another. The heat exchanger may include a support structure with a plurality of mutually axially spaced hoop supports, and may incorporate an intermediate header. The heat exchanger may incorporate recycling of methanol or other antifreeze used to prevent blocking of the heat exchanger due to frost or ice formation.
Heat exchanger having curved fluid passages for a gas turbine engine
A heat exchanger for a gas turbine engine includes a heat exchanger body having a first surface and a second surface oriented at least partially at an oblique angle relative to the first surface. The heat exchanger body defines a plenum extending between the first and second surfaces. Furthermore, the heat exchanger body defines a fluid passage extending through the second surface such that the fluid passage is in fluid communication with the plenum. The fluid passage, in turn, includes first and second portions. The first portion intersects the plenum at an intersection and defines a line of projection extending normal to the second surface. The second portion defines a line of projection extending normal to the first surface. The fluid passage further includes a curved portion extending from the first portion to the second portion.
