A coaxial heat exchanger is provided. Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a coaxial heat exchanger for use in water source heat pumps or other applications involving fluid to fluid heat transfer. Embodiments of the present disclosure allow for the use of pre-existing engineered tubing with a textured or riffled interior surface and a folded fin intermediate member. Some methods of the present disclosure involve annealing and hydrostatically expanding the engineered tubing to increase contact and thermal transfer between the inner tube and the intermediate member. Additional systems, devices, and methods are also disclosed.

A heat exchanger includes a first flow path through which a first fluid flows, a second flow path through which a second fluid flows, and an adjustment layer disposed between the first flow path and the second flow path adjacent to each other and that adjusts an amount of heat exchange between the first flow path and the second flow path. The adjustment layer includes a first portion and a second portion having a heat transfer performance lower than that of the first portion, and has a heat transfer performance varied depending on a position in the adjustment layer.

The heat exchanger includes a protective device, mutually parallel tubes through which a first fluid circulates, and perpendicular fins connecting two successive flat tubes, a second fluid circulating between said flat tubes by passing through said fins, the protective device being apertured so as to allow the circulation of the second fluid through the fins. The protective device includes fixing spikes which are inserted forcibly between the fins.
