An apparatus and method for modifying a handgun to accept an optical sight comprises a modified slide mechanism adapted to include a flat recessed rear section configured to receive an adapter plate for mounting an optical sight. Various embodiments include modified internal components used to replace stock components what will no longer fit within the modified profile of the slide mechanism. Replacement of the slide mechanism and associated internal components will allow a user to add an optical sight to an existing handgun.

The rear sight further includes a rear sight blade having a cavity configured to receive the changeable, removable rear sight notch insert. The changeable, removable rear sight notch insert includes one or more tabs to facilitate insertion or removal of the rear sight notch insert into or out of the cavity. The rear sight notch inserts are variable in notch width, notch depth, and notch shape.

An offset optic mount can be detachably mounted to an accessory rail of a firearm in a cantilevered fashion with its distal end extending laterally from the firearm. An offset optic mount includes: a base adapted to be mounted to the accessory rail; an optic adapter plate configured so that an optical sight can be attached thereto, the optic adapter plate is offset at an angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the base; and a stem adapted to connect the optic adapter plate to the base, the stem is a reversable piece used to set and change the offset angle of the optic adapter plate relative to the longitudinal axis of the base.

A target sight for a firearm includes a main body, an elongated, flexible emitter carrier having a first end fixed to the main body and having a movable portion at a second end opposite the first end, and a light emitter mounted to the movable portion of the flexible emitter carrier.

A gun scope is provided having a battery compartment. The battery compartment may be configured to house one or more batteries to provide electronic power to one or more electronic components associated with the gun scope. The battery compartment is associated with a rotatable component, such as a magnifying ring, and configured to rotate with the rotatable component about an axis. In one embodiment, the battery component may be integrally formed with the rotatable component. In another embodiment, the battery component may be formed as a separate component and coupled with the rotatable component. The battery compartment extends radially outward from the rotatable component and provides a lever for rotation of the rotatable component about its axis of rotation.
