Free spinning hub for mortar projectiles
A precision guided munition with a fin assembly comprising a free spinning hub to which the fins attach addresses the need to roll control a projectile while eliminating the problems of the fin kit. The fin hub, to which the fins are attached, is radially decoupled from the mortar tail boom thus allowing it and the fins to spin freely relative to the body without coupling any of the spin. Advantageously, the need for a bearing between the hub and the tail boom is negated.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DETERMINING PROJECTILE FIN DEPLOYMENT TIMELINE
A projectile is disclosed, comprising: a body; a fin having a magnet disposed thereon, the fin being coupled to the body, at least a portion of the fin being arranged to: (i) stay inside the body before the projectile is launched, and (ii) exit the body after the projectile is launched; a magnetic sensor disposed within the body, the magnetic sensor being arranged to detect changes in a position of the magnet relative to the magnetic sensor while the fin is exiting the body; and a data recorder disposed within the body, the data recorder being operatively coupled to the magnetic sensor, wherein the data recorder is configured to use the magnetic sensor to collect data indicating a displacement of the fin relative to the body after the projectile is launched.

A rescue system includes a wearable article, such as a wristband, which includes a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag, a radio frequency (RF) beacon, and a power supply. One or more RFID readers (collectively, an RF network) are located on a vessel, the RFID readers being configured to communicate with the RFID tag. Should the RF network detect a passenger overboard event, a modular rocket system is deployed. The modular rocket system comprises a guidance module, the guidance module including a guidance system for guiding the modular rocket system toward a target. A flight control module is removably attached to the guidance module, said flight control module including a plurality of airfoils. A flotation module is removably attached to the flight control module, said flotation module including a flotation device. A rocket motor module removably attached to the flotation module, said rocket motor module including a rocket motor configured to propel the modular rocket system.

DEVICE TO PUNCTURE WING ENVIRONMENTAL SEALS AND REDUCE DEPLOYMENT FORCE
A puncturing feature is provided on the deployable wings of a precision guidance kit of a rocket to facilitate breaking through the wing slot seal that protecting the wings prior to deployment. The puncturing feature may be a sharp region on the leading edge near the wing tip that first contacts the wing slot seal. The puncturing feature may be a sharp edge extended along the leading edge of the wing to provide a cutting action as the wing passes through the wing slot seal.
