Flow channel for a turbomachine
The present invention relates to a method for designing a flow channel for a turbomachine, in particular a gas turbine that comprises a guide vane cascade having a plurality of guide vanes, which are distributed in the peripheral direction, and flow passages, each of which is bounded by two successive guide vanes, and a support rib arrangement having at least one support rib, wherein a design of one of the flow passages is adapted to this support rib, that it is situated downstream of, in order to reduce a pressure loss and/or a vibrational stimulation.
Exhaust diffuser strut for reducing flow separation
A strut provided in an exhaust diffuser and having an airfoil-shaped cross-section is provided. The strut may include a cut portion configured to be formed in a trailing edge in a span direction. The cut portion is configured to provide a stepped portion in at least a portion of the trailing edge.
Shape memory alloy variable stiffness airfoil
An aerostructure is provided. The aerostructure may comprise an airfoil extending from a leading edge to a trailing edge, the airfoil comprising a stiffness and a camber, and a shape memory alloy (SMA) mechanically coupled to the airfoil via a resin, the SMA configured to be coupled to a current source, wherein at least one of the stiffness or the camber changes in response to a phase change of the SMA.
Turbine airfoil with passive morphing structure
A turbine engine airfoil apparatus, including an airfoil defined by a plurality of airfoil sections arrayed along a stacking axis that extends between a root and a tip, wherein at least two of the airfoil sections spaced apart from each other have differing airfoil section thermal expansion properties.
STATOR WHEEL OF A TURBOMACHINE COMPRISING VANES HAVING DIFFERENT CHORDS
A stator wheel of a turbomachine configured to be mounted in an aircraft, the turbomachine extending along an axis, the turbomachine comprising a core flow stream for a first air flow and a bypass flow stream for a second air flow, wherein the stator wheel is configured to be mounted along the axis, the stator wheel comprising a plurality of vanes extending radially from the axis, each vane comprising a leading edge and a trailing edge that together define a chord in a plane of revolution defined relative to the axis, at least two vanes having different chords at a same radial distance, the difference in chords between two adjacent vanes being less than or equal to 25%.
Morphing structures for fan inlet variable vanes
A gas turbine engine includes a fan section, a compressor section, and a turbine section. The fan section has a plurality of vane assemblies spaced circumferentially about an engine axis. The vane assemblies each include an airfoil extending between a leading edge and a trailing edge, a control rod extending through the airfoil, and a mechanism driven by the control rod to change the shape of the airfoil. A vane system for a gas turbine engine is also disclosed.
Outlet guide vane
An unducted single fan engine includes a housing having one or more fan blades coupled to the housing and configured to rotate circumferentially. The engine has one or more outlet guide vanes coupled to the housing. Each of the one or more guide vanes has a leading edge portion having a variable leading edge. The engine has one or more actuation devices coupled to each of the one or more outlet guide vanes. The one or more actuation devices are configured to control the variable leading edge of the respective outlet guide vane. The variable leading edge is controllable to vary the pitch, camber, lean angle, or sweep of the respective outlet guide vane.
Frangible airfoil with shape memory alloy
An airfoil including a plurality of composite plies extending from a leading edge to a trailing edge and between a tip and a root. The airfoil further includes a frangible airfoil portion at the tip extending between the leading edge and the trailing edge and extending between the tip and a frangible line along a span. The frangible airfoil portion including a plurality of composite plies and one or more shape memory alloy inserts disposed between the plurality of composite plies. A gas turbine engine including a frangible airfoil and methods for forming a frangible airfoil are also disclosed.
Morphing airfoil
The present disclosure defines a morphing airfoil having a dynamic flexible anisotropic skin system that is capable of carrying high level aerodynamic (or fluid) pressure loads over a structural surface. The structural surface can morph and bend in response to control inputs to change a lift force without separate movable control surfaces. The anisotropic skin is attached to underlying active and compliant structures. A control system causes the underlying support structure to move to a desired location which in turn causes the skin to bend and/or flex without exceeding a stress threshold and thus vary the lift profile along a span of the airfoil.
