Engine strut flow control

A strut includes a strut body extending in a radial direction and defining an airfoil shape in cross-section perpendicular to the radial direction. The airfoil shape includes a leading edge and a trailing edge. An extraction inlet is defined through an exterior surface of the strut body, in fluid communication with an internal conduit of the strut body. An injection outlet is defined through the exterior surface of the strut body, in fluid communication with the internal conduit for fluid communication through the internal conduit from the extraction inlet to the injection outlet.

COMPRESSOR AEROFOIL MEMBER
20180335044 · 2018-11-22 · ·

An aerofoil member that extends between radially inner and radially outer endwalls which define a gas annulus of the compressor. Aerofoil member has a leading edge, a trailing edge, a pressure surface and a suction surface such that successive cross-sections through the aerofoil member transverse to the radial direction provide respective aerofoil sections. The external shape of the aerofoil member is defined by the stacking of the aerofoil sections on a stacking axis which passes through a reference point common to each aerofoil section. The aerofoil member has lean produced by the projection of the stacking axis onto a plane normal to the engine axis intersecting a first one of the endwalls at an angle of from 5 to 25 to the circumferential direction direction such that the pressure surface faces the first endwall.

CENTRIFUGAL TURBO MACHINE HAVING STRETCHABLE AND VARIABLE DIFFUSER VANE

The present disclosure is relates to a centrifugal turbo machine equipped with stretchable and variable diffuser vanes capable of securing further improvement of compression efficiency by reducing an angle of the vane and increasing a length of the vane using forced rotating driving of a diffuser during operation of a compressor so as to reduce frictional loss of the fluid when a flow rate of fluid is reduced.

Cantilevered airfoils and methods of forming the same are disclosed herein. An example airfoil disclosed herein includes an airfoil including an airfoil body including a first face and a second face, a first recessed portion formed in the first face and internal temperature-regulating features and a first insert disposed within the first recessed portion, the first insert causing the airfoil body to assume a first predefined curvature profile at a first temperature, the first insert causing the airfoil body to assume a second predefined curvature profile at a second temperature.

Fluidfoil

A fluidfoil includes a selectively fluid chargeable capillary and a flexible body adjacent the capillary, the shape of the flexible body being adjustable in use via controlling the degree to which the capillary is charged and therefore the forces that the capillary exerts on the flexible body.

Guide vane
10012103 · 2018-07-03 · ·

A gas turbine engine variable guide vane has a fixed portion on an upstream side, a movable flap on a downstream side and a transfer slot between a fixed portion trailing surface and a movable flap leading surface. The movable flap has opposite pressure and suction sides along a chord line between leading and trailing edges, and is rotatable about an axis along a movable flap span over a range of angular positions between open and closed. The trailing surface has a substantially U-shaped profile with first and second branches respectively partially around the pressure and suction sides. The transfer slot has inlet and exhaust ports respectively on the pressure and suction sides. In the closed position the suction side contacts the second branch closing the exhaust port, and in the open position the second branch directs a first air flow through the transfer slot tangentially over the suction surface.

Airfoil design having localized suction side curvatures

An airfoil for a gas turbine engine comprises a radially extending body having a transverse cross-section. The transverse cross-section comprises a leading edge, a trailing edge, a pressure side and a suction side. The pressure side extends between the leading edge and the trailing edge with a predominantly concave curvature. The suction side extends between the leading edge and the trailing edge with a predominantly convex curvature. The suction side includes an approximately flat portion flanked by forward and aft convex portions. In another embodiment, the suction side includes a series of local curvature changes that produce inflection points in the convex curvature of the suction side spaced from the trailing edge.
