Use of recovered power in a process
Processes and apparatus for recovering energy from a petroleum, petrochemical, or chemical process are disclosed. The process comprises providing a fluid process stream in a petroleum, petrochemical, or chemical process zone having a direct current power input; controlling a flow rate of the process stream by directing at least a portion of the process stream through a first power-recovery turbine to generate electric power as direct current therefrom; and providing the recovered direct current to the direct current power input of the process zone.
Natural gas liquid fractionation plant waste heat conversion to simultaneous power and potable water using organic Rankine cycle and modified multi-effect-distillation systems
Certain aspects of natural gas liquid fractionation plant waste heat conversion to simultaneous power and potable water using organic Rankine cycle and modified multi-effect distillation systems can be implemented as a system that includes two heating fluid circuits thermally coupled to two sets of heat sources of a NGL fractionation plant. The system includes a power generation system that comprises an organic Rankine cycle (ORC), which includes (i) a working fluid that is thermally coupled to the first heating fluid circuit to heat the working fluid, and (ii) a first expander configured to generate electrical power from the heated working fluid. The system includes a MED system thermally coupled to the second heating fluid circuit and configured to produce potable water using at least a portion of heat from the second heating fluid circuit. A control system actuates control valves to selectively thermally couple the heating fluid circuit to a portion of the heat sources of the NGL fractionation plant.
Natural gas liquid fractionation plant waste heat conversion to simultaneous power, cooling and potable water using integrated mono-refrigerant triple cycle and modified multi-effect-distillation system
Certain aspects of natural gas liquid fractionation plant waste heat conversion to simultaneous power, cooling and potable water using integrated mono-refrigerant triple cycle and modified MED system can be implemented as a system that includes two heating fluid circuits thermally coupled to multiple heat sources of a NGL fractionation plant. An integrated triple cycle system, which includes an organic Rankine cycle (ORC), a refrigeration cycle and an ejector refrigeration cycle, is thermally coupled to the first heating fluid circuit. A MED system, configured to produce potable water, thermally coupled to the second heating fluid circuit. The system includes a control system configured to actuate control valves to selectively thermally couple the heating fluid circuits to portions of the heat sources of the NGL fractionation plant.
HEAT RECOVERY SYSTEM
A heat recovery system includes a plurality of heat source portions; a heat exchanger connected to the heat source portions via a primary flow path portion through which a first fluid flows, and configured to perform heat exchange between the first fluid and a second fluid; a valve mechanism configured to select a flow path that connects the heat exchanger and the heat source portions; and a power generation unit connected to the heat exchanger via a secondary flow path portion through which the second fluid flows, and configured to generate electric power using the second fluid. Timing of a temperature rise of the first fluid in one heat source portion is different from that in another heat source portion. The valve mechanism operates in accordance with the timing of the temperature rise of the first fluid in each of the heat source portions.
PROCESS IMPROVEMENT THROUGH THE ADDITION OF POWER RECOVERY TURBINE EQUIPMENT IN EXISTING PROCESSES
Power recovery turbines can be used debottlenecking of an existing plant, as well as recover electric power when revamping a plant. A process for recovering energy in a petroleum, petrochemical, or chemical plant is described. A fluid stream having a first control valve thereon is identified. A first power-recovery turbine is installed at the location of the first control valve, and at least a portion of the first fluid stream is directed through the first power-recovery turbine to generate electric power as direct current therefrom. The electric power is then recovered.
Method to Recycle Plastics, Electronics, Munitions or Propellants Using a Metal Reactant Alloy Composition
This invention relates to a method and apparatus for recycling plastics, electronics, munitions or propellants. In particular, the method comprises reacting a feed stock with a molten aluminum or aluminum alloy bath. The apparatus includes a reaction vessel for carrying out the reaction, as well as other equipment necessary for capturing and removing the reaction products. Further, the process can be used to cogenerate electricity using the excess heat generated by the process.
BOILER SYSTEM CONTROLLING FUEL TO A FURNACE BASED ON TEMPERATURE OF A STRUCTURE IN A SUPERHEATER SECTION
A boiler system is provided comprising: a furnace adapted to receive a fuel to be burned to generate hot working gases; a fuel supply structure associated with the furnace for supplying fuel to the furnace; a superheater section associated with the furnace and positioned to receive energy in the form of heat from the hot working gases; and a controller. The superheater section may comprise a platen including a tube structure with an end portion and a temperature sensor for measuring the temperature of the tube structure end portion and generating a signal indicative of the temperature of the tube structure end portion. The controller may be coupled to the temperature sensor for receiving and monitoring the signal from the sensor.
POWER PRODUCTION WITH COGENERATION OF FURTHER PRODUCTS
The present disclosure relates to cogeneration of power and one or more chemical entities through operation of a power production cycle and treatment of a stream comprising carbon monoxide and hydrogen. A cogeneration process can include carrying out a power production cycle, providing a heated stream comprising carbon monoxide and hydrogen, cooling the heated stream comprising carbon monoxide and hydrogen against at least one stream in the power production cycle so as to provide heating to the power production cycle, and carrying out at least one purification step so as to provide a purified stream comprising predominately hydrogen. A system for cogeneration of power and one or more chemical products can include a power production unit, a syngas production unit, one or more heat exchange elements configured for exchanging heat from a syngas stream from the syngas production unit to a stream from the power production unit, and at least one purifier element configured to separate the syngas stream into a first stream comprising predominately hydrogen and a second stream.
Method for operating a power plant in order to generate electrical energy by combustion of a carbonaceous combustible, and corresponding system for operating a power plant
The invention relates to a method for operating a power plant (1) for generating electrical energy for delivery to at least one consumer (16) by combustion of a carbonaceous combustible, wherein carbon dioxide (19) is separated from the flue gas (7) of the power plant (1), the separated carbon dioxide (19) is converted at least in part into a fuel (20), characterized in that the fuel (20) is combusted at least temporarily in at least one heat engine (4) so as to form a waste gas (8), and electrical energy is generated by the heat engine (4) and is delivered to at least one consumer (16), at least some of the thermal energy of the waste gas (8) being used in at least one of the following processes: a) for heating combustion air (10) of a power plant (1); b) for heating a process medium (14) of the power plant (1); c) in a drying of the combustible of the power plant (1); and d) in carbon dioxide separation.
