Finger follower with oil spray hole
A switching roller finger follower, including: first and second body portions; a resilient element connected to the body portions; and a locking assembly. The first body portion includes: a first bore; a second bore including a first orifice arranged to receive a pressurized fluid; and a second orifice arranged to expel the fluid. The locking assembly includes: a locking pin disposed in the first bore; and a shuttle pin engaged with the locking pin. The shuttle pin is displaceable transverse to the locking pin to: displace the locking pin in a first axial direction to contact the second body portion with the locking pin; and displace the locking pin in a second axial direction to disengage the locking pin from the second body portion. The second bore includes the second orifice; or the second bore does not include the second orifice and is in fluid communication with the second orifice.
ACTUATION ARRANGEMENT FOR SWITCHABLE LEVER
A switchable lever is provided that includes an outer lever, an inner lever pivotably mounted to the outer lever, and a coupling assembly that is capable of selectively locking the inner lever to the outer lever. The coupling assembly includes a coupling pin that has a first end that is configured to be received by an actuator. The coupling pin can be configured with at least one slot, which can be received by the actuator. The coupling pin is moveable from a first, locked position to a second, unlocked position, by an actuator and can be configured to be received by the actuator continuously throughout a valve lift event. The coupling pin can be configured with at least one protrusion that is arranged to be received by an actuator, or the actuator can be configured with at least one protrusion to receive the coupling pin.
Switchable rocker arm with lash adjustment
A rocker arm includes an outer arm with an outer follower and an inner arm which selectively pivots relative to the outer arm, the inner arm having an inner follower. A lost motion spring biases the inner arm to pivot relative to the outer arm. A lock pin which slides between a coupled position and a decoupled position. A pivot shaft includes a first portion a second portion centered about a first pivot shaft axis and a third portion located between the first portion and the second portion that is centered about a second pivot shaft axis which is parallel to, and laterally offset from, the first pivot shaft axis. The third portion supports the inner arm.
SWITCHABLE ROCKER ARM WITH LASH ADJUSTMENT
A rocker arm includes an outer arm with an outer follower and an inner arm which selectively pivots relative to the outer arm, the inner arm having an inner follower. A lost motion spring biases the inner arm to pivot relative to the outer arm. A lock pin which slides between a coupled position and a decoupled position. A pivot shaft includes a first portion a second portion centered about a first pivot shaft axis and a third portion located between the first portion and the second portion that is centered about a second pivot shaft axis which is parallel to, and laterally offset from, the first pivot shaft axis. The third portion supports the inner arm.
Rocker arm spring retainer
A retainer comprises an inner tubular portion fitted to a mounting body. The inner tubular portion comprises an inner circular edge having a radius R3. An annular retaining surface is connected to the tubular portion. The annular retaining surface comprises an area bounded by an outer edge and the inner circular edge. The outer edge being bounded by an arc AD comprising a first radius R1, a sector CB comprising a second radius R2, where R1>R2, a first chord DC connecting the arc AD to the sector CB, and a second chord BA connecting the arc AD to the sector CB. A rocker arm assembly comprises a rocker arm body configured to actuate a valve in a valve train. The retaining surface abuts a spring coil to retain the coil against the rocker arm body, but the retaining surface does not abut a first arm of the spring.
Valvetrain with rocker arm housing magnetically actuated latch
A valvetrain includes a rocker arm assembly having an electromagnetic latch housed in a chamber formed by a rocker arm. The chamber may be a retrofit hydraulic chamber. A flux shifting bi-stable latch provides a sufficiently compact design. Isolation of the magnetic elements within the rocker arm chamber may provide protection from metal particles carried by oil in an operating environment for the rocker arm assembly. Wiring connections to the rocker arms may be made through spring posts on the rocker arms. Connection to the rocker arms may be made with springs that can endure the rapid motion induced by the rocker arms. A wiring harness for the rocker arms may attach to hydraulic lash adjusters of the rocker arm assemblies. The rocker arm assemblies and their wiring may be formed into a unitary module that facilitates installation.
Valve train retention clip with integrated locking pin anti-rotation feature
A clip for a switchable roller finger follower that includes a retainer for a hydraulic lash adjuster, and an anti-rotation feature that prevents rotation of a coupling pin is provided. The clip includes a first leg arranged adjacent to a dome-shaped recess on a bottom surface of an outer lever of the switchable roller finger follower that includes a retainer for the hydraulic lash adjuster, and a second leg of the clip includes an anti-rotation bar that extends laterally across a part of the coupling pin and prevents rotation of the coupling pin. A switchable finger follower with the clip is also provided.

A retainer comprises an inner tubular portion fitted to a mounting body. The inner tubular portion comprises an inner circular edge having a radius R3. An annular retaining surface is connected to the tubular portion. The annular retaining surface comprises an area bounded by an outer edge and the inner circular edge. The outer edge being bounded by an arc AD comprising a first radius R1, a sector CB comprising a second radius R2, where R1>R2, a first chord DC connecting the arc AD to the sector CB, and a second chord BA connecting the arc AD to the sector CB. A rocker arm assembly comprises a rocker arm body configured to actuate a valve in a valve train. VALVE TRAIN RETENTION CLIP WITH INTEGRATED LOCKING PIN ANTI-ROTATION FEATURE
A clip for a switchable roller finger follower that includes a retainer for a hydraulic lash adjuster, and an anti-rotation feature that prevents rotation of a coupling pin is provided. The clip includes a first leg arranged adjacent to a dome-shaped recess on a bottom surface of an outer lever of the switchable roller finger follower that includes a retainer for the hydraulic lash adjuster, and a second leg of the clip includes an anti-rotation bar that extends laterally across a part of the coupling pin and prevents rotation of the coupling pin. A switchable finger follower with the clip is also provided.
Auxiliary framework for electrically latched rocker arms
A valvetrain suitable for an internal combustion engine of a type that includes a combustion chamber, a moveable valve having a seat formed within the combustion chamber, and a camshaft. The valvetrain includes a rocker arm assembly having a rocker arm and an electrical device that either configures the rocker arm assembly or provides position feedback for a part of the rocker arm assembly. The valvetrain includes a framework that fits around a spark plug tube while holding a component of a circuit that includes the electrical device in a position adjacent the rocker arm assembly. The position may place the component in contact with or very close to the rocker arm assembly. This framework structure may effectively utilize the available space under a valve cover while facilitating correct positioning of the component in relation to the rocker arm assembly.
