FOUR-STROKE INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE THERETO RELATED VEHICLE AND METHOD
A four-stroke internal combustion engine is disclosed. A camshaft and a crankshaft if the engine are synchronized to rotate at a same rotational speed. A first linkage arrangement is configured to change the motion of an exhaust valve head. A second linkage arrangement is configured to change the motion of the intake valve head. A control unit is configured for controlling the first linkage arrangement to selectively prevent the motion of the exhaust valve head and for controlling the second linkage arrangement to selectively prevent the motion of the intake valve head.
System for variable actuation of a valve of an internal-combustion engine
Described herein is a system for variable actuation of an engine valve of an internal-combustion engine, where the system is able to actuate the engine valves, selectively, in a four-stroke operating mode and in a two-stroke operating mode, on the basis of the operating conditions of the engine.
Selective resetting lost motion engine valve train components
Systems and related methods include a rocker arm having integrated components, including a lost motion actuator piston and components for resetting the lost motion actuator piston to provide normal valve closing or late valve closing. Selective reset is facilitated by a reset piston and a blocking piston disposed in a hydraulic circuit including a reset passage. In a non-resetting mode of operation, the blocking piston may block oil flow within the reset passage, regardless of the position of the reset piston, which facilitates late valve closing. An alternative embodiment includes a blocking sleeve disposed concentrically relative to the reset piston.

Gas exchange valve actuator for axial displacement of a gas exchange valve of a combustion engine
An actuator for axial displacement of a gas exchange valve of a combustion engine is configured to be connected to a pressure fluid source and a pressure fluid sink, respectively, and to be driven by a gaseous pressure fluid and includes an actuator piston including an actuator piston disc and an actuator piston rod projecting therefrom in the axial direction, a cylinder volume, the disc separating the cylinder volume into a first part and a second part and being displaceable back and forth in the axial direction in the cylinder volume between an inactive position and an active position, the first part being configured for controllable fluid communication with the pressure fluid source and the pressure fluid sink, respectively, and a hydraulic circuit includes a chamber, the free end of the rod being arranged therein, wherein the rod is displaceable back and forth in the axial direction in a channel.
LASH ADJUSTER CONTROL IN ENGINE VALVE ACTUATION SYSTEMS
Systems for valve actuation in internal combustion engines provide configurations for hydraulic lash adjusters and valve actuation valvetrain components that are particularly suitable for prevention of HLA jacking in dedicated cam environments including Type II valvetrain architectures. In one implementation, a lash adjuster loading component, which may comprise a stroke-limited spring biased piston associated with the main event valvetrain keeps the lash adjuster under a constant compressive force to prevent jacking.
Free-piston engine
A multicylinder internal combustion free-piston engine (FPE) with synchronized reciprocating plungers. The invention provides a solution for the problem of the slow engine speed typical of FPE's with heavy plunger mass. Bounce chambers fitted with sleeve valves control the engine's speed and stroke length. The invention's configuration prevents piston head-strikes and operates at standard compression ratios. Piston pop-top intake valves allow uniflow scavenging and connecting rod oil channels provide lubrication with no combustion chamber contamination. Poppet combustion head valves are operated by linear cams attached to the plungers. Hydraulic valve actuators implement variable valve timing under computer control.

INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE WITH A HYDRAULICALLY VARIABLE GAS EXCHANGE VALVE TRAIN
A hydraulically variable gas exchange valve train for an internal combustion engine is proposed that includes a hydraulic housing with a pressure chamber, a pressure relief chamber, and a vent duct. The vent duct is connected hydraulically on a housing inner side via a restriction to the pressure relief chamber, and opens on the housing outer side below the pressure relief chamber with regard to a direction of gravity. The vent duct opens into a hydraulic reservoir, wherein the vent duct opening lies below a normal level of the hydraulic reservoir with regard to the direction of gravity.
System and method of adjusting actuation timing of valves in a piston engine
A system that provides adjustable actuation timing of one or more valve(s) (16) in a piston engine includes a position sensor (12) and a variable valve actuation assembly (10). The valve(s) (16) can be intake and/or exhaust valves in an internal combustion engine of an automobile. The position sensor (12) takes position readings of the valve(s) (16) as the valve(s) (16) actuate in the piston engine. The variable valve actuation assembly (10) controls actuation timing of the valve(s) (16). Actuation timing of the valve(s) (16) is adjustable based, in part or more, upon one or more position reading(s) of the position sensor (12). The variable valve actuation assembly (10) can be a lost motion assembly (10).
