SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR MEASURING EXHAUST GAS SPECIES AND SCR CATALYST NOX STORAGE FOR SCR-RELATED CONTROLS AND DIAGNOSTICS

Systems, apparatuses, and methods include a controller for an exhaust aftertreatment system including a SCR catalyst in exhaust gas-receiving communication with an engine and at least one reductant dosing system structured to provide reductant to the exhaust gas. The controller is structured to determine a concentration of one or more of NO and NO.sub.2 at or proximate an inlet of the exhaust aftertreatment system and based on a dynamic model of the SCR catalyst, information indicative of a concentration of NOx at or proximate an outlet of the exhaust aftertreatment system, and information indicative of an amount of stored reductant in the SCR catalyst. The controller is further structured to command the at least one reductant doser to increase, decrease, or maintain an amount of reductant provided to the exhaust gas based on the determined concentration of one or more of NO and NO.sub.2 in the exhaust gas.

Crossflow PNA-SCR aftertreatment device

An exhaust aftertreatment device includes a housing defining an inlet and an outlet. A plurality of first substrate layers are positioned within the housing in fluid receiving communication with the inlet. The plurality of first substrate layers define a first flow direction, and the plurality of first substrate layers comprise a passive NOx adsorber washcoat. A plurality of second substrate layers are positioned within the housing with the first and second substrate layers being layered in alternating order. The plurality of second substrate layers define a second flow direction perpendicular to the first flow direction, and the plurality of second substrate layers comprise a selective catalytic reduction washcoat. A connecting passage is in fluid receiving communication with the plurality of first substrate layers and in fluid providing communication with the plurality of second substrate layers.

Lean NO.SUB.x .trap catalyst

A lean NO.sub.x trap catalyst and its use in an emission treatment system for internal combustion engines is disclosed. The lean NO.sub.x trap catalyst comprises a first layer for storing nitrogen oxides (NOx) under lean exhaust gas conditions and releasing and/or reducing stored NOx during rich exhaust gas conditions, and a second layer, said second layer comprising a first zone for oxidizing carbon monoxide (CO) and/or hydrocarbons (HC), and a second zone for oxidizing nitric oxide (NO), and a substrate having an inlet end and an outlet end.

Cold start catalyst and its use in exhaust systems

A cold start catalyst is disclosed. The cold start catalyst is effective to adsorb NO.sub.x and hydrocarbons (HC) at or below a low temperature and to covert and release the adsorbed NO.sub.x and HC at temperatures above the low temperature. The cold start catalyst comprises a molecular sieve catalyst and a supported platinum group metal catalyst. The molecular sieve catalyst consists essentially of a noble metal and a molecular sieve. The supported platinum group metal catalyst comprises one or more platinum group metals and one or more inorganic oxide carriers. The invention also includes an exhaust system comprising the cold start catalyst, and a method for treating exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine utilizing the cold start catalyst.

Systems and methods for measuring exhaust gas species and SCR catalyst NOx storage for SCR-related controls and diagnostics

Systems, apparatuses, and methods include a controller for an exhaust aftertreatment system including a SCR catalyst in exhaust gas-receiving communication with an engine and at least one reductant dosing system structured to provide reductant to the exhaust gas. The controller is structured to determine a concentration of one or more of NO and NO.sub.2 at or proximate an inlet of the exhaust aftertreatment system and based on a dynamic model of the SCR catalyst, information indicative of a concentration of NOx at or proximate an outlet of the exhaust aftertreatment system, and information indicative of an amount of stored reductant in the SCR catalyst. The controller is further structured to command the at least one reductant doser to increase, decrease, or maintain an amount of reductant provided to the exhaust gas based on the determined concentration of one or more of NO and NO.sub.2 in the exhaust gas.

NOx STORAGE MATERIAL

The present invention relates to a NOx storage material comprising a cerium-based mixed oxide comprising cerium, oxygen, and a first rare earth metal other than cerium, wherein said NOx storage material further comprises a second rare earth metal other than cerium; wherein said first rare earth metal is different to said second rare earth metal; and wherein said second rare earth metal is disposed or supported on the surface of the cerium-based mixed oxide.

EMISSION TREATMENT CATALYSTS, SYSTEMS AND METHODS

CROSSFLOW PNA-SCR AFTERTREATMENT DEVICE

An exhaust aftertreatment system includes a cross-flow selective catalytic reduction catalyst. The cross-flow selective catalytic reduction catalyst includes a housing and a substrate assembly. The substrate assembly includes a plurality of first substrate layers defining a plurality of first flow channels and a plurality of second substrate layers defining a plurality of second flow channels. The exhaust aftertreatment system includes a passive NO.sub.x adsorber. The passive NO.sub.x adsorber includes a housing. The housing includes an inlet in exhaust gas receiving communication with the plurality of first flow channels of the cross-flow selective catalytic reduction catalyst. The housing includes an outlet in exhaust gas providing communication with the plurality of second flow channels of the cross-flow selective catalytic reduction catalyst. The passive NO.sub.x adsorber includes a substrate positioned in the housing. The substrate includes a passive NO.sub.x adsorber washcoat.

Passive NOx adsorber

A NOx adsorber catalyst for treating an exhaust gas from a diesel engine. The NOx adsorber catalyst comprises a first region comprising a NOx adsorber material comprising a first molecular sieve catalyst. The first molecular sieve catalyst comprises a first noble metal and a first molecular sieve, and the first molecular sieve contains the noble metal. The first molecular sieve has an STI Framework Type.

Structure for exhaust purification

There is provided a structure including: a substrate including a first and a second ends, and a porous partition wall defining a first and a second cells extending between the first and the second ends; a first catalyst; and a second catalyst. In a first area, the first catalyst is disposed on a first surface of the partition wall, and the partition wall with the first catalyst disposed on the partition wall is impermeable to gas. In a second area, the first catalyst is not provided, the second catalyst is disposed in a region including at least a part inside the partition wall, the part facing the first cell, and the partition wall with the second catalyst disposed in the partition wall is permeable to gas. In a third area, any of the first catalyst or the second catalyst is not provided, and the partition wall is permeable to gas.
