Diffusion Surface Alloyed Metal Exhaust Component With Inwardly Turned Edges
20200232377 · 2020-07-23 ·

An exhaust component for a motor vehicle with improved corrosion resistance, including a housing with outer walls that define an internal volume and one or more inner walls that divide the internal volume into an exhaust chamber and an interior chamber. The interior chamber is isolated from the exhaust chamber and the external environment. At least part of one outer wall or one inner wall is made of a diffusion surface alloyed metal sheet. The diffusion surface alloyed metal sheet comprises a secondary metal that is formed to a primary metal substrate by diffusion. The diffusion surface alloyed metal sheet includes edges that are oriented toward and exposed to the interior chamber. As a result, the primary metal substrate at the edges of the diffusion surface alloyed metal sheet is protected from exposure to corrosives such as salt spray in the external environment and urea in the exhaust chamber respectively.

An emissions control system for treating exhaust gas containing NO.sub.x emissions from an internal combustion engine comprises a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) device that stores reductant that reacts with the NO.sub.x emissions, a reductant supply system configured to inject the reductant according to a reductant storage model; NO.sub.x module(s) configured to generate an NO.sub.x concentration signal indicating an NO.sub.x concentration, temperature module(s) configured to generate a temperature signal indicating an SCR temperature of the SCR device, and a control module operably connected to the reductant supply system, the NO.sub.x module, and the temperature module. The control module is configured to determine an amount of the reductant that is parasitically oxidized based on the NO.sub.x concentration signal and the temperature signal, and to determine a correction factor based on the amount of parasitically oxidized reductant to modify the reductant storage model.

METHOD FOR OPERATING AN EXHAUST GAS AFTERTREATMENT SYSTEM OF AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE WHICH HAS A THREE-WAY PRE-CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND EXHAUST GAS AFTERTREATMENT SYSTEM
20200182121 · 2020-06-11 · ·

A method for operating an exhaust gas aftertreatment system of an internal combustion engine and an exhaust gas aftertreatment system are described. The internal combustion engine has a turbine wheel, which is arranged in the exhaust gas line, of an exhaust gas turbocharger, and a bypass line which bypasses the turbine wheel and in which a three-way pre-catalytic converter is arranged. A three-way main catalytic converter is situated in the exhaust gas line. A NOx sensor is provided which measures the NOx fraction in the exhaust gas downstream of the three-way pre-catalytic converter. If the measured NOx fraction exceeds a threshold value, the three-way pre-catalytic converter is diagnosed as faulty.

Provided is a plug-in hybrid vehicle which includes an exhaust treatment unit which communicates with an engine and discharges exhaust gas generated by combustion of liquid fuel, an oxidation catalyst and an SCR which are placed in a middle part of the exhaust treatment unit to remove impurities contained in the exhaust gas, and an external charging mechanism which is electrically connected with a battery and charges the battery with external electrical power, where the external charging mechanism includes a first heater unit and a second heater unit which heat the oxidation catalyst and the SCR with electrical power stored in the battery or external electrical power when the battery is charged with the external electrical power in a state where the fuel-based power unit and the electrical power unit are stopped.

EXHAUST GAS PURIFICATION APPARATUS FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

A decrease in purification performance of a system as a whole is suppressed in cases where catalysts are arranged in an upstream side portion and in a downstream side portion of an exhaust passage in an internal combustion engine. A first catalyst, a sensor and a second catalyst are sequentially arranged in the exhaust passage of the internal combustion engine, wherein a switch is made between lean control and rich control in such a manner that an amount of increase or decrease in a storage amount of oxygen falls within a predetermined range, and in cases where the rich control is carried out after performing a predetermined number of times of rich control, the rich control is continued until an air fuel ratio detected by the sensor becomes equal to or less than a rich determination threshold value which is smaller than a stoichiometric air fuel ratio.

Exhaust gas purification device

An exhaust gas purification device includes: a substrate of wall-flow structure having an inlet cell, an outlet cell and a porous partition wall; an upstream catalyst layer provided inside the partition wall and disposed in an upstream portion, including an exhaust gas inflow end section, of the substrate; and a downstream catalyst layer provided inside the partition wall and disposed in a downstream portion, including an exhaust gas outflow end section, of the substrate. The downstream catalyst layer contains a carrier, and Rh supported on the carrier. The upstream catalyst layer contains a carrier, and Pd and/or Pt supported on the carrier.
