Internal combustion engine having a cylinder head and a secondary air system
An internal combustion engine has a cylinder head having an integrated exhaust manifold having exhaust ducts connected to a secondary air system's distributor block via its supply ducts for supplying ambient air through an inlet as secondary air into the exhaust manifold. Each supply duct having a valve assembly having a closure flap pivotable about a pivot axis at a distance from its the center of mass. The closure flap closing due to the influence of gravity when there is no pressure difference between the exhaust manifold and the secondary air system and opening automatically due to a relative overpressure in the gas pressure on the side of the secondary air system in relation to the gas pressure on the side of the exhaust manifold.
INTEGRATED EXHAUST SYSTEM APPARATUS
An integrated exhaust system apparatus to be mounted on an engine is provided. The apparatus includes an apparatus housing; an engine interface; an exhaust system interface with a first exhaust apparatus outlet configured to direct a first portion of exhaust through the housing wall; an EGR interface with a second exhaust apparatus outlet configured to direct a second portion of exhaust through the apparatus housing wall; and an exhaust manifold arranged within the apparatus interior. The exhaust manifold includes a first manifold outlet configured to direct the first portion of exhaust out of the manifold interior and a second manifold outlet configured to direct the second portion of exhaust out of the manifold interior. An EGR cooler is arranged within the apparatus interior with passages fluidly coupled such that the second portion of exhaust is directed out of the apparatus housing via the second exhaust apparatus outlet.
Cylinder head with integrated exhaust manifold and engine cooling system having the same
A cylinder head with integrated exhaust manifold includes a cylinder head housing, an exhaust manifold, and first, second and third water jackets. The cylinder head housing has a combustion chamber formed in a bottom surface thereof and an internal receiving space. The exhaust manifold is received in the space of the cylinder head housing and is connected to exhaust ports of the cylinder head housing. The first water jacket is received in the space of the cylinder head housing and disposed adjacent to the combustion chamber. The second water jacket is received in the space of the cylinder head housing and disposed to contact a bottom of the exhaust manifold. The third water jacket is received in the space of the cylinder head housing and disposed to contact a top of the exhaust manifold.
CYLINDER HEAD WITH INTEGRATED EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND DEDICATED EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION PORT
An automobile vehicle engine exhaust system with integrated exhaust gas recirculation portion includes a cylinder head having a first exhaust passage internal to the cylinder head. The first exhaust passage is split within the cylinder head into a dedicated exhaust passage opening out of the cylinder head via a dedicated exhaust port, and an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) exhaust passage opening out of the cylinder head via an EGR exhaust port. A valve assembly is operated to open one of the dedicated exhaust port or the EGR exhaust port while closing the other one of the dedicated exhaust port or the EGR exhaust port.
Motor vehicle cylinder head
A motor vehicle cylinder head is provided with a single flat planar surface in which are formed spaced apart integral inlet and outlet ports used for connecting respective coolant supply and returns to a coolant jacket defined within the cylinder head. The use of a common planar surface for the location of the inlet and outlet ports provides a more reliable sealing of the cylinder head to the respective coolant supply and returns.
CYLINDER HEAD WITH INTEGRATED TURBOCHARGER
A cylinder head assembly for an internal combustion engine includes a cast cylinder head, a turbocharger housing integrally cast with the cylinder head, and a water jacket cast into the integrally cast turbocharger housing and configured to receive a flow of coolant for cooling the integrally cast turbocharger housing. The assembly can also include a wastegate housing integrally cast with the cylinder head and the turbocharger housing, and a water jacket cast into the integrally cast wastegate housing. The water jacket is configured to receive a flow of coolant for cooling the integrally cast turbocharger housing and the integrally cast wastegate housing.
CYLINDER HEAD WITH INTEGRATED TURBOCHARGER
A cylinder head assembly for an internal combustion engine includes a cast cylinder head and a turbocharger housing integrally cast with the cylinder head and having an integrally cast wastegate housing. The turbocharger housing is configured to receive a turbocharger cartridge rotatably supporting a shaft coupled between a compressor wheel and a turbine wheel. The integrally cast wastegate housing defines a wastegate chamber configured to receive a wastegate valve, a flow of exhaust gas from the turbine wheel, and a flow of wastegate exhaust gas.
ENGINE WITH VALVE ASSEMBLY FOR SELECTABLE EXHAUST GAS BYPASS
An internal combustion engine includes a cylinder head assembly having a first group of exhaust ports and a second group of exhaust ports as well as an exhaust manifold integrated with the cylinder head assembly. The exhaust manifold includes a first runner in fluid communication with the first group of exhaust ports. The first runner defines a first exit configured for directing exhaust gas from the first group of exhaust ports to an EGR bypass passage and further defines a second exit configured for directing exhaust gas from the first group of exhaust ports to a turbocharger passage. The engine further includes a bypass valve assembly mounted to the exhaust manifold and having a bypass valve disposed within the first runner. The bypass valve is moveable between a turbine-closed position and an EGR-closed position.
Exhaust pipe structure for in-line four-cylinder internal combustion engine
An exhaust pipe structure for an in-line four-cylinder internal combustion engine includes: an in-line four-cylinder internal combustion engine; four exhaust pipes connected with respective exhaust ports in respective cylinders of the internal combustion engine; and a converging exhaust pipe connected with a converging portion at which downstream ends of all the exhaust pipes converge. In this exhaust pipe structure, the exhaust pipes are each configured as a dual pipe including an outer pipe and an inner pipe disposed inside the outer pipe. At the converging portion, the four exhaust pipes are arrayed linearly in parallel with each other, and the outer pipes of adjacent ones of the exhaust pipes are directly welded with each other at the downstream ends.
Multi-cylinder engine
A multi-cylinder engine having an engine body with a cylinder head is provided. The engine includes first and second cylinder groups, each having a plurality of independent exhaust passage parts provided to the cylinder head and connected to cylinders of the first and second cylinder groups, respectively, and first and second collective exhaust passage parts collecting the first and second pluralities of independent exhaust passage parts at a location downstream in an exhaust gas flow direction, and having an opening formed in the side surface part of the cylinder head, first and second exhaust-pipe parts each connected to the openings of the first and second collective exhaust passage parts, respectively, an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) passage connected at one end to the first exhaust passage group and connected at the other end to an intake passage, and an exhaust gas temperature sensor provided to the first exhaust-pipe part.
