The exhaust system includes a catalyst operable in a temperature range to catalyze exhaust gas produced in the TRU engine and flown through the exhaust system. The exhaust gas system further includes temperature sensors respectively disposed to sense exhaust gas temperatures upstream of and downstream from the catalyst, at least one of first, second and third valves which are proportionally controllable to moderate amounts of air provided to the TRU engine, fuel provided to the TRU engine and air provided to the catalyst, respectively, and a controller. The controller is configured to compare sensed exhaust gas temperatures with the temperature range and issue a proportional signal to the at least one of the first, second and third valves in accordance with results of the comparison.
CONTROL DEVICE AND CONTROL METHOD FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
A control device for an internal combustion engine including an upstream cleaning device and a downstream cleaning device that are provided in an exhaust gas passage and a temperature sensor that detects a temperature of exhaust gas between the upstream cleaning device and the downstream cleaning device is provided. The control device includes a first temperature estimating unit configured to estimate a temperature of the downstream cleaning device from the temperature of exhaust gas detected by the temperature sensor and a second temperature estimating unit configured to estimate a temperature of the downstream cleaning device without using the temperature of exhaust gas detected by the temperature sensor. An abnormality determining process for the upstream cleaning device is performed when at least the temperature of the downstream cleaning device estimated by the second temperature estimating unit is equal to or greater than a predetermined threshold value.
Systems and methods for controlling engine torque
Methods and system are provided to control engine torque of an engine of a vehicle. The methods comprise determining a drive torque demand on a crankshaft of an engine; determining an accessory torque demand on the crankshaft, the accessory torque demand comprising a first torque demand from a first e-machine and a second torque demand from a second e-machine; determining whether the sum of the drive torque demand and the accessory torque demand is greater than a usable torque capacity output from the engine crankshaft, and increasing a speed of the engine in response to determining that the sum of the drive torque demand and the accessory torque demand is greater than the usable torque capacity output from the engine crankshaft.
METHOD FOR TREATING POLLUTANTS USING A THREE-WAY CATALYST WHEN STARTING UP A COMBUSTION ENGINE
The invention relates to a method involving the treatment of the pollutants emitted by a vehicle having a heat engine, in which catalyst means (3) are heated, characterised in that the amount of oxygen (OS) in the catalyst means (3) is controlled to be over a minimum amount of oxygen (OS1) by injecting air upstream of said catalyst means (3).
METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR TURBINE BYPASS
Methods and systems are provided for a turbocharger. In one example, a method may include bypassing exhaust gases flowing to the turbocharger in response to a catalyst temperature being less than a threshold temperature. The bypassing includes opening a bypass valve and adjusting a position of one or more turbine nozzle vanes.
Energy-optimized forced regeneration of a particle filter of a hybrid vehicle
Various embodiments include a control system for the regeneration of a particle filter in an exhaust gas flow of an internal combustion engine of a hybrid vehicle including an electric machine comprising: a particle filter; a temperature sensor measuring an actual temperature of the filter; a first heat source upstream of the filter; and a controller. The controller is programmed to: determine a temperature difference between a setpoint temperature for regeneration of the particle filter and the actual temperature of the particle filter; calculate a power output difference to be applied based at least in part on the temperature difference; and control the first heat source using the power output difference.
Engine assembly and method
An engine assembly and a method of control thereof is provided. The engine assembly comprises: an exhaust gas aftertreatment device having an inlet for receiving exhaust gases leaving an engine; a heater for selectively heating gases at or upstream of the exhaust gas aftertreatment device; an air moving device for driving a flow of gases into the inlet of the exhaust gas aftertreatment device when the engine is in a non-running condition; and a controller configured to, prior to the engine being started: operate the heater to heat gases at or upstream of the inlet; and operate the air moving device to drive a flow of gases into the inlet to thereby heat the exhaust gas treatment device.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR HEATING A HONEYCOMB BODY
An electrical heater and method for heating a catalyst. The electrical heater includes a honeycomb body having a central axis extending longitudinally therethrough. The honeycomb body includes a matrix of intersecting walls forming a plurality of cells extending axially through the honeycomb body. A plurality of electrodes are positioned about an outer periphery of the honeycomb body. The plurality of electrodes are arranged into a plurality of pairs of electrodes that comprises at least a first pair of electrodes and a second pair of electrodes. Each pair of electrodes includes a first electrode and a second electrode. An electrode length of the electrodes along the outer periphery is proportional to a central current path length between center points of the electrodes of that pair of electrode. The electrode lengths of the electrodes of the first and second pairs of electrode are different.
