Method and system to control vehicle operation

Methods and systems are provided for performing a multiple gear downshift of a transmission gear by transiently operating in an intermediate gear. In response to ambient humidity and a condensate level in a charge air cooler, the transmission gear may be downshifted from a higher gear to an intermediate gear, and then to a requested lower gear. Downshifting through an intermediate gear may also be controlled based on the gear shift request.

Condensate port of an integral intake manifold

A power train system includes a heat exchanger reservoir to collect condensate, a layered intake manifold, and integral tubing leading from the reservoir to an interior of the intake manifold via an intake manifold wall such that there is no seal between the condensate port and the manifold. The tubing splits into at least two branches transitioning into a set of wings containing a plurality of nozzles protruding into the interior.

INTAKE AND EXHAUST DEVICE FOR AUTOMOTIVE ENGINE

Substances in external EGR gas are smoothly guided to a combustion chamber. An intake passage includes: a main intake passage including intake ports and communicating with a combustion chamber and having a supercharger interposed in the main intake passage; and a bypass passage branching off from the main intake passage upstream of the supercharger, and connected downstream of the supercharger; a flow rage adjustment valve changing a cross-sectional flow area of the bypass passage. The bypass passage is provided above the main intake passage, and includes an upper passage to which an EGR passage is connected.

Air inlet assembly for an internal combustion engine

An internal combustion engine includes a cylinder block that defines a cylinder and a cylinder head mounted to the cylinder block. The engine additionally includes a gas compressor configured to selectively pressurize air being received from the ambient for delivery to the cylinder. The engine also includes an intake valve that is operatively connected to the cylinder head and controls delivery of the selectively pressurized air to the cylinder for combustion therein. Furthermore, the engine includes an air inlet assembly arranged between the intake valve and the compressor. The air inlet assembly is configured to supply the pressurized air to the cylinder and includes at least one passage configured to collect a condensate from the pressurized air. A vehicle having such an engine is also disclosed.

CONDENSATE SEPARATOR

A condensate separator for separating condensate from a gas stream, the condensate separator may include a housing having a condensate drain at a bottom end, a swirl generator provided at an inlet end of the housing, the swirl generator placing the gas stream in a rotational movement, and an impact element situated downstream from the swirl generator.

METHOD OF CLEANING A CHARGE AIR COOLER AND AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

The present disclosure relates to a turbocharged internal combustion engine which will flush dirt periodically from the heat exchange surfaces of the LT-charge air cooler by using water condensed on the heat exchange surfaces for the flushing.

INTEGRAL DRAIN ASSEMBLY FOR A HEAT EXCHANGER AND METHOD OF FORMING

A method of forming an integral drain for a heat exchanger is provided. The method includes forming a plurality of passage walls to define a plurality of passages with an additive manufacturing process, each of the passage walls having a non-linear portion. The method also includes integrally forming a drain wall with at least one of the passage walls with the additive manufacturing process to define a drain for each of the plurality of passages, the drain wall located proximate the non-linear portion of each of the plurality of passage walls.

Integral drain assembly for a heat exchanger and method of forming

An integral drain assembly for a heat exchanger includes a plurality of passage walls defining a plurality of passages, each of the passage walls having a non-linear portion. Also included is a drain wall integrally formed with at least one of the passage walls to define a drain for each of the plurality of passages, the drain wall located proximate the non-linear portion of each of the plurality of passage walls.

Method and system for maintaining an engine coolant level

Methods and systems are provided for maintaining a desired engine coolant level and a relative glycol amount in the engine coolant by using water sourced from on-board vehicle systems. In one example, a method may include supplying water to the engine coolant reservoir in response to the engine coolant level decreasing below a threshold. Also, a relative glycol amount in the coolant may be maintained at a threshold amount by adding water to the coolant in response to a relative glycol increasing above the threshold.

Exhaust-gas turbocharger for a motor vehicle

The present disclosure relates to an exhaust-gas turbocharger for a supercharged internal combustion engine having a charge-air cooler. In order to prevent the formation in the charge-air-guiding parts of condensate which above a certain quantity, if it remains within the charge-air-guiding parts, leads to damage to the engine, such as, for example, ice formation, water shock or corrosion, it is proposed to provide a condensate outlet opening on the compressor of the exhaust-gas turbocharger, which opening is provided in a lowermost region of a charge-air flow path through the compressor.
