Hybrid Partial And Full Step Quadratic Solver For Model Predictive Control Of Diesel Engine Air Path Flow And Methods Of Use
Methods and systems for use of model predictive control (MPC) controllers utilizing hybrid, quadratic solvers to solve a linear feasibility problem corresponding to a nonlinear problem for an internal combustion engine plant such as a diesel engine air path. The MPC solves a convex, quadratic cost function having optimization variables and constraints and directs the plant per the output solutions to optimize plant operation while adhering to regulations and constraints. The problem includes a combination of iterative and direct calculations in the primal space depending on whether a partial step (iterative) or a full step (direct) is attempted. Further, primal and dual space array matrices are pre-computed and stored offline and are retrieved via use of a unique identifier associated with a specific active set for a set of constraints. Such hybrid and/or offline calculations allow for a reduction in computational power while still maintaining accuracy of solution results.
Internal combustion engine provided with a selective catalytic reduction system
An internal combustion engine (ICE) and method of control are provided to determine a value of a catalyst temperature and a value of a quantity of a reducing agent stored in the catalyst. The quantity of gas recirculated by an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system of the ICE is calculated on the basis of the value of the catalyst temperature and of the value of the quantity of the reducing agent stored in the catalyst. This solution makes it possible to adjust the quantity of gas recirculated by the EGR system on the basis of parameters linked to an efficiency of a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system associated with the ICE, in order to reduce the global quantity of pollutants produced by the ICE and released in the environment.
METHOD FOR CONTROLLING EGR RATE (EGR) OF A LOW PRESSURE EGR SYSTEM, SYSTEM AND VEHICLE
The present disclosure provides a method for controlling EGR rate of a low pressure EGR system, a system and a vehicle. The method calculates a molar concentration of water molecules of exhaust gas processed by EGR cooler, calculates a molar concentration of water molecules, obtains coefficient as to excess air, and calculates a molar volume ratio of air according to the coefficient. Under a maximum limit of humidity, an allowable EGR rate of the exhaust gas processed by the EGR cooler is determined and an allowable EGR rate of the mixed gas before entry into supercharger and/or compressor is also determined, a lower EGR rate between the two allowable rates is set as a maximum for application actual working conditions. The present disclosure solves a problem of condensation caused by an introduction of exhaust gas from the existing gasoline engine.
CONTROLLER FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
A controller for an internal combustion engine is configured, when the speed of combustion of a fuel in a cylinder changes as the property of the fuel injected from a fuel injection valve changes, to change a combustion limit excess air ratio that is a target value of a fuel injection amount feedforward control according to a first relationship that the combustion limit excess air ratio increases as the speed of combustion of the fuel in the cylinder increases. The controller is also configured, when the speed of combustion of the fuel in the cylinder changes as the property of the fuel injected from the fuel injection valve changes, to change the value of a combustion limit combustion speed parameter that is the target value of a fuel injection amount feedback control according to a second relationship that the speed of combustion of the fuel in the cylinder corresponding to a combustion limit increases as the speed of combustion of the fuel in the cylinder increases.
Variable displacement engine control system and method
Methods and systems are provided for improving the performance of a variable displacement engine. Split injection and spark retard may be used in active cylinder during a VDE mode to heat an exhaust catalyst and extend the duration of VDE mode operation. Split injection and spark retard may also be used in reactivated cylinders at a time of cylinder reactivation to improve restart combustion stability.

A hydraulic pump is driven by a diesel engine that limits maximum output torque in a low revolution speed region lower than a high revolution speed region including a rated revolution speed in such a manner that the maximum output torque has a characteristic of intermediate torque lower than torque of a maximum output horsepower point at the rated revolution speed, and a hydraulic actuator is driven by hydraulic fluid delivered from the hydraulic pump.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DIAGNOSING AN IGNITION SYSTEM
A system and method for assessing the presence or absence of ignition coil degradation for an ignition system that includes two ignition coils for each spark plug. Ignition coil degradation may be determined without having to monitor ignition coils via specialized hardware circuitry. In one example, degradation of one or more ignition coils may be inferred from cylinder the presence or absence of cylinder misfire.
Oxycombustion engine systems including recirculation management features
A method for operating an oxycombustion engine system includes passing a nitrogen-depleted gas, a fuel, and a recycled exhaust gas into a combustion chamber, combusting a mixture of the nitrogen-depleted gas, the fuel, and the recycled exhaust gas, thereby producing an exhaust gas including carbon dioxide, detecting a pressure of the recycled exhaust gas passed to the combustion chamber, determining whether the detected pressure of the recycled exhaust gas is less than a configurable pressure threshold, and in response to determining that the detected pressure of the recycled exhaust gas is less than the configurable pressure threshold, increasing the pressure of the recycled exhaust gas passed to the combustion chamber.
CONTROLLER FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
To provide a controller for internal combustion engine which can suppress deterioration of the detection accuracy of the combustion state due to influence of the external disturbance component, when detecting a combustion state based on angle detection information by the crank angle sensor. A controller for internal combustion engine calculates a shaft torque in unburning; calculates an external load torque based on the shaft torque in unburning and the actual shaft torque in the vicinity of the top dead center; and in an integration crank angle interval which is set corresponding to a combustion period, calculates a subtraction value by subtracting the external load torque from the shaft torque in unburning, calculates a division value by dividing the subtraction value by the inertia moment, and calculates a combustion state index by integrating a value obtained by subtracting the division value from the crank angle acceleration.
