A pre-filter kit and related method of use with an air filter associated with an intake of a machine is provided. The kit can include a sheet of pre-filter material, an adhesive component, such as an adhesive on a release liner, and one or more optional bands. The method can include: measuring a height of the air filter, cutting the sheet of pre-filter material so that the sheet includes a top edge and a bottom edge separated from one another by the height, as well as a first end and an opposing, second end; applying adhesive to the first end; and wrapping the sheet around the air filter so that the first end overlaps the second end to secure the first end to the overlapped portion of the sheet. The pre-filter is secured to the air filter so as to impair dirt, dust and debris from entering the air filter.

An apparatus and method are provided for a cone air filter for a closed intake system of an internal combustion engine. The cone air filter is comprised of a cone-shaped filter medium, retained between a base and a cap, that is fabricated to remove contaminants and particulate matter from an intake airstream. The base is comprised of a flange that couples with an air intake duct of the internal combustion engine. A shell receiver is incorporated into the base and receives a rigid exterior shell, such that the exterior shell surrounds the cone air filter and directs the intake airstream therein. A cap is disposed on an apex portion of the cone air filter and is configured to direct the intake airstream around the apex portion and into the cone-shaped filter medium.

NVH soundtube having integrated hydrocarbon adsorption and air filtration device to control evaporative emissions

An integrated hydrocarbon trap and air filter in the soundtube of a vehicle for use in conjunction with the engine's air intake system is disclosed. The trap and air filter comprises a housing body having first and second ends. The housing includes hydrocarbon-adsorbing media and air filter media. The hydrocarbon-adsorbing and air filter trap are incorporated into a soundtube. A first soundtube portion connects the housing to the engine's air intake system while a second soundtube is open to ambient and connects the housing to a vehicle body structure such as a fender. Selection of the body diameter, thickness, and length, the dimensions and type of both air filter media and hydrocarbon-adsorbing media and position of the air filter media, NVH media, and space relative to the trap media and location of the integrated hydrocarbon trap and air filter along the soundtube provide superior tunability and adaptability.

The primary filter media has a plurality of pleats having first fold edges on an inlet face of the primary filter media and second fold edges on an outlet face of the primary filter media. The first and second fold edges extend from a first lateral side to a second lateral side of the primary filter media. The secondary filter media is constructed of a non-woven material and includes a first portion arranged on the inlet face of the primary filter media, a second portion secured to the first lateral side of the primary filter media, and a third portion secured to the second lateral side of the primary filter media.
