A clogging degree estimation apparatus includes an information acquisition unit configured to acquire information indicating a vehicle's traveling status for each predetermined travel section, a coefficient determination unit configured to determine a clogging coefficient K based on the traveling status indicated by the information for each travel section, and a clogging degree calculator configured to calculate an increase in clogging degree based on the product of the clogging coefficient K and a distance of the travel section for each travel section and calculate, as the clogging degree, an integrated value of the increase in clogging degree calculated for each travel section.

Methods and systems for monitoring loading of an air filter

Methods and systems for estimating the loading of an air filter are disclosed herein. The method includes receiving upstream mass air flow data indicative of a mass air flow on an upstream side of an air filter (i.e., the dirty side of the filter), receiving downstream air pressure data indicative of an air pressure on a downstream side of the air filter (i.e., the clean side of the filter), and receiving downstream temperature data indicative of a temperature on the downstream side of the air filter. The method also includes determining a differential pressure (P) across the air filter indicative of a loading of the air filter based on the upstream mass air flow data, the downstream air pressure data, and the downstream temperature data.

In one example embodiment, an engine flow measurement device features an engine data repository, one or more sensor units, and a measurement unit. The measurement system is configured to identify, from performance data, a maneuver performed during operation of the aircraft and to measure, for the identified maneuver, a plurality of maneuver flow values achieved during performance of the maneuver. The plurality of maneuver flow values correspond to a plurality of maneuver engine power values. Each of the plurality of maneuver flow values represent a volume of air flow through the air filter at a particular moment during performance of the maneuver.

Filtration systems with multitiered data exchange capabilities

Aspects herein include filtration systems with multitiered data exchange capabilities. In an embodiment, a filtration system with multitiered data exchange capabilities is included. The system can include a first data communication tier including a filter element, the filter element storing data, and a first sensor. The system can include a second data communication tier including a reader device in communication with the first sensor. The system can include a third data communication tier including an engine control unit (ECU) in communication with the reader device, wherein the ECU stores data. The second data communication tier receives data from the first data communication tier and the third data communication tier. The second data communication tier executes operations on the received data to create a processed data set. Further, the second data communication tier sends the processed data set to the third data communication tier. Other embodiments are also included herein.

Systems and methods for evaluating whether or not degradation of an engine air intake air filter is present based on a pressure drop across the air filter are presented. In one example, a mean and standard deviation of a pressure drop across an air filter are a basis for indicating whether or not the air filter is degraded. Further, the mean and standard deviation are a basis for estimating a useful life cycle of the air filter.

Methods and systems are provided for determining a status of an air filter in an intake of an engine in a hybrid vehicle. One example method includes, during an engine-off condition, utilizing a pump in an evaporative leak check module of the hybrid vehicle to produce a pressure in an intake manifold of the engine, and indicating degradation of the air filter based on a comparison of barometric pressure and the pressure produced in the intake manifold. In this way, degradation of the air filter may be determined without engine operation.
