An intake apparatus of a V-type internal combustion engine including first cylinders arranged along a first direction in a first bank and second cylinders arranged along the first direction in a second bank, the intake apparatus includes a surge tank, first branch paths, second branch paths, and a protrusion. The surge tank is provided above the first and second banks. The surge tank includes a lower wall, an air inlet, first air outlets, and second air outlets. The first air outlets are arranged along the first direction in the lower wall. The second air outlets are arranged along the first direction in the lower wall. The first branch paths connect the first outlets to the first cylinders. The second branch paths connect the second outlets to the second cylinders. The protrusion is provided on the lower wall between a closest first air outlet and a closest second air outlet.
Intake apparatus for internal combustion engine and outside gas distribution structure for internal combustion engine
An intake apparatus for an internal combustion engine includes an intake apparatus body including a plurality of intake pipes which are connected to respective cylinders of the internal combustion engine, the internal combustion engine including the cylinders of which the number is multiples of three, and an outside gas distribution portion distributing outside gas to each of the plurality of intake pipes, the outside gas distribution portion including a single first outside gas distribution pipe connected to an outside gas supply source, a plurality of second outside gas distribution pipes branched from the first outside gas distribution portion, an outside gas collective passage gathering outside gas from the plurality of second outside gas distribution pipes, and three third outside gas distribution pipes branched from the outside gas collective passage and connected to the plurality of intake pipes respectively.
ENGINE
An engine provided with a combustion chamber includes a cylinder head in which a bulkhead is provided so as to extend toward the combustion chamber and an intake port is formed so as to bifurcate at the bulkhead, a bulkhead member that is provided with a partition plate intersecting the bulkhead and that divides the intake port into a first flow passage and a second flow passage with the partition plate provided between the first and second flow passages. The bulkhead of the cylinder head has a cutout formed and the partition plate of the bulkhead plate has an auxiliary wall that fills the cutout.
EGR GAS DISTRIBUTOR
An EGR gas distributor for distributing EGR gas to each of a plurality of branch pipes of an intake manifold includes a gas chamber, a chamber case extending in a direction traversing the branch pipes, a gas inflow pipe provided in the chamber case and configured to introduce EGR gas to the gas chamber, a plurality of gas distribution pipes branched from the chamber case and arranged at intervals in a longitudinal direction of the chamber case to distribute EGR gas from the gas chamber to each of the branch pipes, and a condensed-water flow restraining unit for restraining condensed water generated in the gas chamber from flowing in the gas distribution pipes.
Intake device
In an intake device for an internal combustion engine, a difference in the air-fuel ratio between the cylinders is reduced without increasing the lengths of the branch passages. An intake device (23) for an internal combustion engine (1) having at least three cylinders (3) includes: an intake chamber (30) configured to be connected with an air inlet (16); and multiple branch passages (31) connected at upstream ends (41) thereof to the intake chamber and connected at downstream ends thereof to intake ports (6) communicating with the cylinders, respectively, wherein the upstream ends of the branch passages are arranged in a direction of rotation about a predetermined center line X in a same order as an order of ignition of the cylinders.
Supplementary air assembly for an engine
An internal combustion engine includes a crankcase including a crankshaft and at least one cylinder coupled to the crankcase. The at least one cylinder has an intake port and defines an internal combustion chamber. The engine further includes a throttle body assembly with a throttle valve coupled to the intake port of the at least one cylinder and a throttle plate. Additionally, the engine includes a supplementary air inlet fluidly coupled to the intake port and spaced apart from the throttle valve. The supplementary air inlet is configured to receive a flow of air from a location downstream of the throttle plate when the throttle plate is in a fully closed position and the flow of air is directed into the combustion chamber through the intake port for combustion therein.
Air intake apparatus
An air intake apparatus includes: an air intake apparatus body including first, second, third and fourth air intake passages respectively provided corresponding to first, second, third and fourth cylinders of a multi-cylinder engine which has one or a plurality of groups of four consecutive cylinders of the first, second, third and fourth cylinders, the multi-cylinder engine having an air intake sequence of the first cylinder, the third cylinder, the fourth cylinder, and the second cylinder; and a distribution passage through which external gas is distributed to the first, second, third and fourth air intake passages. The distribution passage includes an upstream distribution passage, first and second midstream distribution passages branched off from the upstream distribution passage, and first and second downstream distribution passages branched off from the first midstream distribution passage, and third and fourth downstream distribution passages branched off from the second midstream distribution passage.
INTAKE MANIFOLD
An intake manifold includes a surge tank and left and right intake pipes containing one end sides each connected to the surge tank, and respectively extending to both side directions of the surge tank. A gas distribution passage portion to distribute exhaust gas to each of the left and right intake pipes is provided along a lower surface side of the surge tank and lower surface sides of the left and right intake pipes. An exhaust gas inlet and a gas distribution passage connected to the exhaust gas inlet are formed on the gas distribution passage portion. A communication hole to communicate an inside of each of the intake pipes and the gas distribution passage is formed on each of the left and right intake pipes.
Air intake system for internal combustion engine
An intake manifold is provided that controls swirl on entry to a combustion chamber. Each intake manifold includes a fin or rib portion positioned to reduce or eliminate swirl induced by the configuration of the intake manifold, particularly when used in a large engine having a left bank and a right bank of combustion chambers. By controlling swirl induced by the intake manifold, charge motion consistency is improved between engine cylinders and between the left bank and the right bank, thereby improving the consistency of combustion and power output, improving efficiency and reducing emissions (e.g., decreased particulate emissions (also described as smoke), hydrocarbon emissions, and NOx emissions), and further including an improved knock margin, improved fuel economy, wider rich and lean limits, etc.
Charge-air cooler with plenum partition
An engine includes a cylinder block defining a bank of cylinders having physically adjacent first and second cylinders. The engine also has a gas compressor configured to pressurize an ambient airflow for delivery to the first cylinder and the second cylinder. The engine additionally has intake valves configured to control delivery of the pressurized airflow as a first airstream to the first cylinder and a second airstream to the second cylinder for combustion therein. A firing interval for the two adjacent cylinders results in the first airstream temporally overlapping the second airstream. A charge-air cooler is configured to cool the pressurized airflow prior to delivery thereof to the first and second cylinders and includes a cold-side plenum for discharging the pressurized airflow toward the first and second cylinders. A partition in the cold-side plenum is configured to separate the first airstream from the second airstream and thereby minimize interference therebetween.
