Device for automatically stopping and restarting internal combustion engine
A device for automatically stopping and restarting an internal combustion engine is provided with a crank angle sensor (1) that detects a crank angle of an engine (10), a fuel injection unit (11) that injects fuel into the engine, and the device is also provided with a starter activation prohibition determination means that prohibits activation of a starter (20) by determining that the engine is in reverse rotation during inertial rotation of the engine, and removes the starter activation prohibition depending on the crank angle when the engine starts reverse rotation.
Control device for an internal combustion engine
A control device according to the present invention performs an automatic stop control in which an injection of fuel from a fuel injection valve is stopped and a rotation of an engine is stopped when an automatic stop condition is satisfied. Furthermore, the control device controls an injection operation of fuel and an ignition operation to the fuel in consideration of compression when the fuel is actually ignited in an expansion stroke cylinder, when a re-start demand occurs after an initiation of the automatic stop control and the engine is to be re-started by an ignition start-up. Specifically, the control device predicts a crank angle at an actual ignition time point in a case where processing for performing the ignition start-up at the present time whenever a predetermined time period has passed. Then, the control device initiates the ignition start-up when the crank angle falls within a predetermined range in which a sufficient compression can be attained. Thereby, the engine is more certainly re-started by the ignition start-up.
METHOD FOR OPERATING AN AUTOMATIC START/STOP SYSTEM IN A VEHICLE UTILIZING A TORQUE CONVERTER
A system and method for operating an automatic start/stop system in a motor vehicle having an internal combustion engine, an automatic transmission and a torque converter with an impeller disconnect clutch is disclosed. A controller may implement an engine start/stop system by, at appropriate times, stopping engine by halting fuel and restarting engine when propulsion is needed. During an engine start/stop event, the engine is automatically shut down and the impeller clutch of the torque converter may be disengaged to decouple the impeller and the engine to provide for fuel and emissions savings.
Vehicle engine automatic control device
A vehicle engine automatic control device has a brake operation amount detecting unit that detects an amount of brake operation by a driver, an engine stopping/re-starting unit that, during coast drive, stops an engine based on the amount of brake operation that is detected, and, after the engine stops, re-starts the engine when the amount of brake operation that is detected falls below a first threshold, and a first threshold setting unit that sets the first threshold smaller as vehicle speed becomes lower.
Engine Starting System
A control device sets reverse rotation period as a cranking prohibition period, and when a start request of an engine is generated during reverse rotation period, cranking is started by driving either or both of the first starter and the second starter when it is detected that a crankshaft is shifted from reverse rotation to forward rotation based on an information of a rotation angle sensor. As a result, the delay from generation of the start request of the engine until cranking is started can be reduced, so that the starting time of the engine can be shortened.
Control method for internal combustion engine and control device for internal combustion engine
If an internal combustion engine that has been automatically stopped is to be restarted under a decreased engine speed, a control unit of the internal combustion engine starts cranking when a crank angle of a cylinder in compression stroke of the internal combustion engine is closer to bottom dead center than a threshold value set in advance. More specifically, if an engine speed of the internal combustion engine is in forward rotation, the cranking is begun when the crank angle of the cylinder in compression stroke is closer to the bottom dead center than a threshold value set in advance. If the engine speed of the internal combustion engine is in backward rotation, the cranking is begun when the crank angle of the cylinder in compression stroke is closer to the bottom dead center than another threshold value set in advance.
Apparatus and method for engine stop position control
An electric starter system for an internal combustion includes a pinion gear, a pinion solenoid coupled to the pinion gear, a starter motor that is selectively connectable to the flywheel of the engine via the pinion gear, and a controller in communication with the pinion solenoid and the starter motor. In response to an engine auto-stop signal, the controller is configured to translate the pinion gear into contact with the flywheel and the motor, and cause rotation of the engine crankshaft to a predetermined crank angle. In response to an engine auto-start signal, the controller is configured to command delivery of motor torque from the starter motor, through the pinion gear, and to the flywheel for a duration sufficient for starting the engine.
Engine control device for vehicle including acceleration assist control
An engine control device for a saddle riding vehicle includes a mechanical centrifugal clutch for connecting and disconnecting driving force from an engine to a driving wheel, a throttle operator to adjust output power of the engine, a motor to rotate a crankshaft of the engine, and a control unit to control the motor and a fuel injection system. The control unit executes injection stopping control for stopping fuel injection during deceleration of the vehicle and executes, when an opening operation of the throttle operator is performed after an engine speed becomes equal to or lower than a centrifugal clutch disconnection speed at which the centrifugal clutch is disconnected, acceleration assist control for rotating the crankshaft with the motor.
METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR INHIBITING STOP-START FUNCTIONALITY
Methods and systems are provided for selectively disabling a stop-start function of a vehicle based on a predicted anxiety of a driver of the vehicle upon merging into transverse traffic. In one example, selectively disabling the stop-start function of a vehicle based on a predicted anxiety of the driver of the vehicle includes, when approaching an intersection having a first traffic pattern, disabling a stop-start function responsive to an estimated merging acceleration for the intersection exceeding a threshold acceleration rate of the vehicle.
Controller and method for operating starter motor
Embodiments of the present invention provide a controller for a starter motor operable to receive a first input indicative of an engine shutdown being required, a second input indicative of a change-of-mind event having occurred after initiation of engine shutdown and a third input indicative of the engine position. After receipt of the first input the controller is operable to monitor the third input and to determine an expected engine rotation direction indicative of the expected rotation direction of the engine after a predetermined delay. If the expected engine rotation direction is positive and the second input is received then the controller is configured to control the output means to cause the starter motor of the engine to be actuated upon receipt of the second input. If the expected engine rotation direction is negative and the second input is received then the controller is configured to delay controlling the output means to cause the starter motor of the engine to be actuated until a determination is made that the expected rotation direction is positive. Advantageously, the controller calculates the expected engine rotation direction before receipt of the input indicative of the change-of-mind event having occurred, thereby reducing the time required to determine whether or not the starter motor can be actuated.
