An apparatus and a method for pre-heating an engine of a mild hybrid vehicle are provided, and the apparatus includes: a pre-heating plug pre-heating the engine; a pre-heating controller recognizing the mild hybrid vehicle based on vehicle driving information, determining whether the mild hybrid vehicle enters a coasting driving mode based on the vehicle driving information, and generating a duty control signal according to a coasting driving time when the mild hybrid vehicle is driven in the coasting driving mode; and a driver supplying electrical energy of the low-voltage battery to the pre-heating plug according to the generated duty control signal.
System and method for emergency starting of fuel cell vehicle
A system and method for emergency starting of a fuel cell vehicle is provided. In particular, a high-voltage converter, a balance of power (BOP), and a controller are included in the system. The high-voltage converter is configured such that one side thereof is connected to a high-voltage battery via a battery switch and the other side thereof is connected in parallel to a plurality of fuel cells. The BOP is connected in parallel to the high-voltage converter and the fuel cells. The controller is configured to control the power supplied from the high-voltage battery to the BOP without conversion by connecting the battery switch upon the failure of the high-voltage converter or high-voltage battery.
Isolation of auxiliary electronics battery from starting battery
A battery combiner may be used to electrically isolate first and second batteries during conditions in which a first battery required for a mechanical drive system may experience excessive power draw. The second battery may be used to provide a switched and/or continuous power source to a control system and/or other electrical devices for reliable operation, and the combiner may join the first and second batteries together such that both are electrically charged by a single alternator during conditions when it is safe.
Apparatus and method to maximize vehicle functionality and fuel economy with improved drivability during engine auto stop-start operations
An auto stop-start equipped vehicle power management system includes a primary power source supplying energy to an electrical starter to crank a vehicle engine and a secondary power source coupled in parallel to the primary power source. The secondary power source supplies energy to electric loads during an engine auto stop-start operation. The electrical loads maintain vehicle subsystem functionality during the engine auto stop-start operation. The energy supplied to the electrical loads is current limited during the engine auto stop-start operation. A controllable switch decouples the secondary power source from the primary power source and starter motor during the engine auto stop-start operation. Operating parameters of the electrical loads are monitored during the engine auto stop-start operation. If a respective operating parameter threshold associated with the electrical loads is exceeded during the engine auto stop-start operation, then the vehicle engine is automatically restarted and the controllable switch is subsequently closed.
