An accelerated and/or redirected flow arrangement, optimally serving as a wildlife and/or debris excluder (WDE), is used in combination with a turbine-like device having an inlet end and an outlet end for fluid flowing therethrough, e.g., a hydro-turbine. The arrangement includes at least a forward part designed to be placed in front of a fluid inlet of a turbine-like device and configured to produce at least one of the following effects on the fluid: (a) imparting a re-direction of the fluid; and/or (b) accelerating the flow velocity of the fluid, as it flows through the forward part. Turbine-like devices having both a forward part and a rearward part of flow arrangement are disclosed, as well as a method of enhancing turbine performance.
A SYSTEM FOR GENERATING HYDROKINETIC POWER FROM A SUBCRITICAL CHANNEL
A system for generating hydrokinetic power from a subcritical channel is disclosed. The system comprises a power channel diverted from the subcritical channel for generating hydrokinetic power by changing one more flow parameters of water, wherein the power channel includes an intake section, one or more slope section, one or more power section and a recovery section, an intake spillway at the intake section of power channel, connecting the subcritical channel with the power channel for enhancing the velocity of water, wherein the intake spillway is designed based on rate of discharge of water to be drawn from the subcritical channel and an array of turbines located in the power channel for generating power using the diverted water from the subcritical channel, wherein the number of turbines are based on the length of the power channel.
Ducted counter-rotating wind turbine
A wind energy harvesting machine with three counter-rotating rotors in a duct is disclosed. The wind energy harvesting machine includes a tower, a duct, a counter-rotating generator with two rotary parts, and three groups of blades. The duct includes supporting static stators in front and rear and a static nose cone in the front. The counter-rotating generator has a main shaft and rotary interior and exterior parts to rotating in opposite directions. Three rotary blade groups including front and rear blade groups rotatable around the main shaft in the same direction, and a middle blade group rotatable in an opposite direction. The front and rear blade groups are displaceable axially along the main shaft and the middle blade group is fixed on the exterior part of the counter-rotating generator.
FLUID-REDIRECTING STRUCTURE
A fluid-redirecting structure includes a rigid body having an upstream end, a downstream end, and an axis of rotation, the rigid body incorporating a plurality of troughs each spiralled from a tip at the upstream end to the downstream end about the axis of rotation, the troughs being splayed with respect to the axis of rotation thereby to, proximate the downstream end, direct incident fluid along the troughs away from the axis of rotation.
Method and apparatus for generating energy from a flowing water current
A system for generating energy from a water current flowing in a body of water. For example, the system may have a generator assembly operable to generate energy in response to the flow of the current and an anchor assembly located at the bed of the body of water, where the generator assembly is attached to the anchor assembly, is held between the bed and the surface of the body of water, and is rotatable about a substantially vertical axis with respect to the anchor assembly. For another example, the generator assembly may include a housing that is held in an upstream orientation when in use, and an impellor assembly located within the housing and including a plurality of blades arranged to be contacted by the flow of the water when in use.
Flowing-water driveable turbine assembly
A flowing-water driveable turbine assembly (104) for location in river or sea areas with unidirectional and bidirectional water flows. The turbine assembly comprises a turbine support (106) with positive buoyancy in water. The turbine support (106) is arranged to be anchored by an anchoring system (108) to a water bed. The turbine assembly comprises at least one turbine (110). The positive buoyancy of the turbine assembly in water has an upward force to constrain the turbine support 106 and the at least one turbine (110) to a position of floating equilibrium against a downward force of the anchoring system (108). The turbine assembly may have variable buoyancy, a duct around each turbine for directing water through the turbine to generate power from water flow, and a winch or winches for submerging the turbine assembly or parts thereof.
Flow energy installation, in particular encased wind turbine
An encased wind turbine has a casing, rotationally symmetrical in relation to the longitudinal axis and has the cross-section of an airfoil. The radially inner upper side delimits a flow channel. A guide element is rotationally symmetrical in relation to the longitudinal axis projects by part of its length, contrary to the direction of flow, over the casing. The propeller drives a generator, arranged in the housing, for generating electrical energy. The propeller viewed in the direction of flow, is located at least approximately at the guide-element trailing edge. Impinged on by the main flow of the wind, while a bypass flow, owing to the airfoil profile, generates a negative pressure downstream from the guide element and thus accelerates the main flow, is generated between the casing and the guide element. The propeller may be located downstream from the guide element and arranged to be adjustable in its longitudinal position.
Booster assembly and apparatus
The present invention provides a booster apparatus (10) for entraining gas in a flowing second fluid. The booster apparatus comprises a booster housing (116) for receiving a fluid. The booster apparatus has at least one inlet (123) through which a first fluid passes to be entrained in the second fluid when the second fluid is flowing through the booster housing. The present invention also provides a booster assembly (12) comprising a booster apparatus (10) and a fluid motive mechanism such as a turbine unit (11).
