Methods of deposition of thick environmental barrier coatings on CMC blade tips
Methods for tape deposition of a sacrificial coating on a CMC substrate are provided. The method comprises: applying a matrix material onto a surface of a film; drying the matrix material to remove the solvent; and transferring the dried matrix material from the film to the CMC substrate. The matrix material comprises a mixture of a rare earth silicate powder, a sintering aid, and a solvent.

The heat insulating sheet member includes a first region corresponding to an inlet of a bottom wall portion, a second region corresponding to at least a terminating end portion of the scroll portion, a third region provided between the first region and the second region and corresponding to a coupling wall portion, and a fourth region corresponding to an outer peripheral wall portion. The first region and the third region, the third region and the second region, and the first region and the fourth region are coupled to each other with the inorganic flexible material in a continuous state.

The present disclosure relates to a method of fabricating a ceramic composite components. The method may include providing at least a first layer of reinforcing fiber material which may be a pre-impregnated fiber. An additively manufactured component may be provided on or near the first layer. A second layer of reinforcing fiber, which may be a pre-impregnated fiber may be formed on top the additively manufactured component. A precursor is densified to consolidates at least the first and second layer into a densified composite, wherein the additively manufactured material defines at least one cooling passage in the densified composite component.
Method of pressure sintering an environmental barrier coating on a surface of a ceramic substrate
A method of pressure sintering an environmental barrier coating on a surface of a ceramic substrate to form an article includes the steps of etching the surface of the ceramic substrate to texture the surface, disposing an environmental barrier coating on the etched surface of the ceramic substrate wherein the environmental barrier coating includes a rare earth silicate, and pressure sintering the environmental barrier coating on the etched surface of the ceramic substrate in an inert or nitrogen atmosphere at a pressure of greater than atmospheric pressure such that at least a portion of the environmental barrier coating is disposed in the texture of the surface of the ceramic substrate thereby forming the article.
ENVIRONMENTAL BARRIER COATING
An article includes a ceramic-based substrate and a barrier layer on the ceramic-based substrate. The barrier layer includes a matrix phase and gettering particles in the matrix phase. The gettering particles with an aspect ratio greater than one are aligned such that a maximum dimension of the gettering particles extends along an axis that is generally parallel to the substrate. The barrier layer includes a dispersion of diffusive particles in the matrix phase. A composite material and a method of applying a barrier layer to a substrate are also disclosed.
ENVIRONMENTAL BARRIER COATING
An article includes a ceramic-based substrate and a barrier layer on the ceramic-based substrate. The barrier layer includes a matrix phase and a network of gettering particles in the matrix phase. The gettering particles have an average maximum dimension between about 30 and 70 microns. The gettering particles have maximum dimensions that range from about 1 to 100 microns, and a dispersion of barium-magnesium alumino-silicate particles in the matrix phase. A composite material and a method of applying a barrier layer to a substrate are also disclosed.
SILICA-RICH BARRIER COATINGS
In some examples, a method including depositing a plurality of particles on a ceramic or ceramic matrix composite (CMC) substrate to form a barrier coating on the ceramic or CMC substrate, the plurality of particles including a silica-rich rare earth (RE) disilicate material and a second material, wherein the silica-rich RE disilicate material includes excess silica compared to a stoichiometric RE disilicate material, wherein the barrier coating includes a first domain including the silica-rich RE disilicate material and a second phase, the second phase being disposed at grain boundaries, splat boundaries, or both of the barrier coating.
DYNAMIC ROCKET NOZZLE
A rocket nozzle is made from an optimized metal lattice structure, with a hardened material applied onto the metal lattice structure so as to coat the structure and fill voids in the lattice by chemical vapor deposition. A rocket nozzle is further provided having one or more bypass lines for taking expanding gas from a combustion chamber of the rocket nozzle and redirecting the expanding gas to a skirt of the rocket nozzle to thereby manipulate the shape of a plume of expanding gas exiting the rocket nozzle. A rocket nozzle is also provided having one or more main injectors extending into the combustion chamber for injecting fuel for combustion into the combustion chamber and one or more opposing injectors oriented to direct an opposing flow of energy and gas expansion towards the main injectors, or having one or more secondary injectors arranged around the combustion chamber proximal the throat.
ENVIRONMENTAL BARRIER COATING WITH POROUS BOND COAT LAYER
A gas turbine engine article includes a substrate and an environmental barrier coating (EBC) system disposed on the substrate. The EBC system includes, from the substrate, a dense bond coat layer, a porous bond coat layer, and a topcoat layer in contact with the porous bond coat layer at an interface. The porous bond coat layer includes a matrix, oxygen-scavenging gas-evolution particles dispersed through the matrix, and engineered buffer pores. The oxygen-scavenging gas-evolution particles react with oxygen and generate a gaseous byproduct that diffuses through the interface to escape the EBC system. The engineered buffer pores buffer diffusion of gaseous byproduct to the interface by retaining at least a portion of the gaseous byproduct.
